How good is the lens/glass on the HVX ??

DV magazine recently had an article where they did a film out test of JVC's HD100 HDV camera. They were impressed with the results overall, but cited that the problems they DID have with the image were believed to be limitations in the stock lens on the camera, not the HDV format itself.
Now this brings me to a question: How good then is the lens on the HVX? We all beleive the DVCpro HD format gives superior image quality over the HDV formats, however, does the built in lens on the HVX limit the cameras image in any way? What about screw on lenses and 35mm lens adaptors? I can't see how they could improve the image over what the stock glass made onto the camera provides, only a different image.
I'd love to hear a pros thoughts on this. Jarred or Barry? or anyone? Is this camera's image "dumbed down" via the lens made onto it that you cannot remove?

Thanks.

Why not take a look at the TONS of footage on this forum. I could say it's the best thing since my ex-wife's new husband left her, and someone else could say it's the worst thing since Kramer hit the Laugh Factory. The images speak for themselves.
Have a :beer:great day!

Well some say that the JVC HD100 looks better in 720p than the HVX. I don't know about that, But im not speaking of how the images look straight from the camera. Go back and read what I said. In my original post I cited how DV magazine said the camera (JVC) looked AFTER going to a 35mm film out. How do the images stand up? Does the lens effect the image (as mentioned about the JVC in the DV magaizine test). So if a better lens is believed to improve the JVC, then what about the HVX. Especially since its no-removeable.

Which makes all of this academic and just a bunch of speculation -- nobody here has used the HVX with any glass other than whatever Panasonic gives us. You'll just have to trust Leica to design reasonably high-quality optics and not lend their name to sub-par products.

A good point Barry made about the JVC camera is that since it defaults to the highest detail setting, alot of people *think* it has a higher resolution, when in actuality they are really only seeing edge enhancement.

Close but not quite. It defaults to "normal", which (on their scale of -10 to +10) is in the middle. But the thing is, its "normal" level is way way more enhanced/sharpened than the HVX at maximum. You have to turn an HD100 down to -6 before its edge enhancement drops to the same level that the HVX exhibits at +7. So its default edge enhancement is "normal", not "the highest", but definitely that's where this perception of it being "sharper" is coming from. Set them at equivalent edge enhancement and they deliver equivalent sharpness.

yea i was at Abel Eying my very sn to be new HVX..... but on a whirl i though it check the Xlh1 and the JVC. I couldnt believe how much edge enhancemment that particular JVC had been set to.... it was GROSS looking. i also couldnt figure out how to turn it off.... its menue system is well hidden. But ive seen it with edge enhancement off at B&H and it looked much nicer. Still a cool cam. too bad about the acquisition format.
