"The Lodge" - Horror Feature - HVX + M2

I have to watch this film now.

I couldn't gather if this is a good story with a good screenplay... but i can tell that the lighting was superb.. The lighting, i have to say, looks very meticulously done. And the filming and editing are sleek.

Whenever it hits the big screens or DVDs you have to inform the members of this site... because im sure most of them would be interested.

Excellent work guys.

Thanks, the lighting turned out great with the fairly small package we had. Our dp Aaron Platt knows his stuff and we were pretty lucky to get him. The more footage I see cut together the better it looks. And I think the fact that we got out of LA and traveled up to the Rockies helped. That in itself added the most production value. But watch out for shooting exteriors in the mountains, the weather changes way too quickly.

Speaking of, anybody know a good place to find some nice royalty free stock footage of aerial shots of the mountains? We didn't have enough in the budget for a helicopter, but would love to have an opening that plays homage to The Shining.

Check out www.artbeats.com

I hope that's the right link.

But they have what your looking for. I believe a dvd or disk of footage averages $600 bucks.

Ive watched the trailer and I'd just like to say there's something a lil funky going on with the sound.

The shot of the car driving past the camera from screen right. The sound was coming from the left though. I thought it was my headphones but I've checked and re-checked and even watched dvds just to make sure and I'm certain that I'm not wrong about it lol.

You might want to check if the audio for the rest of the trailer is correctly "placed" or if that shot is the only one that's off.

No offense, just nitpicking.

That's strange, I'll have to check the sound again, didn't notice it.
Someone did ask me in a pm about how the hvx handled low light. We didn't have any problems in that area, it seemed to handle those situations great, even with the M2. I don't remember or dp ever mentioning losing light or anything. We even had quite a few situations where we were shooting high shutter speeds at night, and it looked great.
Hopefully we'll have more footage to show soon. Thanks.

Excellent trailer
very cinematic

I was only wondering who you hired for voice talent for "The Lodge" speaking part at the end? It was professional.

I'll be honest, I'm not sure who's doing the voice at the end of the trailer. The editor, who works at a pretty big trailer house, put that on there. It sounds great though. I think they have someone who works for them that does all that stuff, so they added it on as a bonus.

Hi John,

I am an aspiring film maker and i would like to know how long you've been making films and how you got into it. I just got a HVX in July and am a huge horror fan, any info would be much appreciated, Ben

Really liked the tone-well done, waiting for the dvd, do you have a time table yet?

any behind the scenes footage? Would loev t osee some.

excellent trailer.

what was used, in terms of dollies? steadicams? cranes?

Quick question - How do u plan to promote this film? Do u have any distributor yet?
I believe (from the trailer).. this looks like a well made film.

Please provide ur thoughts. Thanks.

Thanks, everybody, glad to see some more people are checking out the trailer. And I also wanted to mention that our DP, Aaron Platt, was just nominated for an Independent Spirit Award. It was for a film just before ours, Wild Tigers I Have Known, but we're still very proud of him. And especially glad we got him to do our movie. Just wanted to give him a congratulations.

We're currently editing the movie right now. We have a rough cut done and we're getting closer to a picture lock. We'll be hiring a sound designer and composer next. We should have a finished film by February. That's the goal anyways, but everything is going really well.

Benandaim, this is our first feature after a few years of writing and shorts. The key was surrounding ourselves with very talented people, and not trying to do everything ourselves. We knew we had to get somebody really good behind the camera and that's how we found Aaron. Then of course sound, then and editor, and finally a composer. We also found some great people during casting too.

There are a few photos of our equipment at BrothersShamus.blogspot.com. Hopefully we can get some behind the scenes footage on the dvd, or our website soon(which is still under construction). We rented pretty much all of our equipment. No steadicam, just a doorway dolly with 16' of straight track, and about half that in curved track. We had a porta-jib for a few 'crane' shots, but nothing crazy. Most of our equipment came from Wooden Nickel in Los Angeles. They cut us a great deal and are very accommodating.

We've sent the trailer to a few distributors and, like most people, they want to see a screener. But the reaction is very good so far, I think we'll be able to get it out there once we're done. We'll keep you updated on what happens.
