Hi everyone,

I just finished a short existentialist film relating the Greek myth of Sisyphus to modern life. It's a free download at http://www.thesisyphusproject.com. Comments, critiques, etc are welcomed and encouraged...thanks in advance!

Here's a still from production:

I thought this was pretty good. I really liked the music and how the visuals flowed with it. Speaking of the visuals, does the footage of the people exercising and the traffic also represent what Sisyphus is going through, a futile action.

Also, assuming that you wanted to follow the original myth to the letter, you could have had the rock roll away from him when he tries to push it up the wall and then have it roll down the step street with him following behind. Right now it looks like he pushes it himself away from the wall sending it down the step street on his own accord. This is just what I got out of it and is just an opinion.

Listen Asa...love the page design. Very, VERY minimalist. Pure art in web design. Now, out with it: which white pixel did you hide the download link in?

yikes...don't know what happened but obviously something went wrong. Sorry about that folks. It's fixed now, although I'm afraid it's not quite so minimalist as before ;-)

Also, for those who want to skip the rest of the site and go straight to the film:

Thanks for the comments Jeremy...the footage of the people and the traffic is meant to reinforce the idea that Sisyphus is representative of humanity as a whole...and yes, engaged in a lot of futile action.

Interesting perspective on pushing the rock away from him. It hadn't occurred to me that it implicates Sisyphus in the rock rolling down the hill. On the other hand, part of the whole concept is that he's tied to the rock. He could just let it roll down hill, but he follows it and picks it up again. To quote Camus:

"Where would his torture be, indeed, if at every step the hope of succeeding upheld him? The workman of today works everyday in his life at the same tasks, and his fate is no less absurd. But it is tragic only at the rare moments when it becomes conscious. Sisyphus, proletarian of the gods, powerless and rebellious, knows the whole extent of his wretched condition: it is what he thinks of during his descent."

Camus' concept of Sisyphus was quite influential on the film...you can read more from him here if you're interested. Thanks again for the comments.
