recording to P2 and tape at the same time?

Can i do this, first time recording something with p2 and i would love to record to both just to be safe.

No, it's not possible. You can always dub from the P2 card to the Dv tape though. So once the card is full you would dub a copy of it to the DV tape. This is quite time consuming though as it would do it in realtime.

If you are looking for safety you could consider a workflow that includes dumping the P2 footage off to a computer and an external drive.

No. But you could record to P2 and also through the firewire to a FireStore or to an appropriate tape deck.
