I just purchased a new intel mac pro. I went to capture some footage from my little pv-gs12 i use as a deck and the mac wouldn't recognize it. I took out my dvx and tried that and it also would not see it. I swaped my firewire cord out and still no change, so i attempted a firewire800 to firewire 4pin and nothing. I tried to capture with imovie and with fcp as well as looking in the about this mac section under firewire and they never showup. I figured my firewire hubs must all be bad. But i just plugged in a external firewire drive and it works fine. Any ideas?

Anyone have any clues? I've been all over the apple website as well as panasonics and haven't turned up anything. I've tested both of these cameras on my pc and they connnect perfect to that so i know its something to do with the mac.

thanks but that didn't help. Still no change. It bothers me that my firewire buss freaks out when i plug the cameras in. Only other time i've seen this happen is at work with blown firewire ports on cameras and i came to the conclusion it was a mac protection deal to keep its firewire ports from being blow, ie it shuts them down when it senses somethings wrong. But i know both of these cameras work fine, i've tried them on my pc w the same firewire cord and had no issues. This is really getting ridiculous at this point and i'm quickly loosing my patience on the matter, any help or leads would be appreciated.

FINALLY A BREAKTHROUGH! I've noticed that mac seems to have a protection setup built into their firewire ports. We have a few cameras with blown firewires at work and i'd noticed whenever one of these cameras gets plugged into the computer the firewire buss goes offline and dumps everything on the bus, be it either firewire cameras or ext. drives. I assume it does this as safety to keep the firewire port from being fried by crossed wires or whatever within the blown device. The thing is i'm not sure what it takes to reset the bus, i'm not thinking its a reset of the computer. My problem seemed to have stemed from my cheap panasonic gs12 camcorder. I didn't want to sacrafice the heads on my dvx for capturing footage so i'd been using this gs12 on my pc for some time. It was finiky and needed to be reset alot but it worked. Well for whatever reason it seems to trip the firewire protection deal on my ports. I didn't notice or expect it because it seems to work relatively ok on my pc. I was mainly attempting to get this gs12 to work on my mac and only tried the dvx twice, both times were soon after an attempt with the gs12 and it seems that the firewire ports were still in non working safe mode after having the faulty gs12 plugged in. Therefore my dvx was not showing up on the buss and i grouped both cameras as problems when really it was just the one. So it looks like i'll be buying another cheap camera to use as a deck now that i've finally narrowed down my problem.
