ZOMBIE NERD (5-minute film made in 24-hours)

Hello there!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I finished my first film - Zombie Nerd. It's a 5-minute short film we made for the Toronto 24-hour film challenge. We classify it as a horror-comedy, or "horromedy" but I'll let you make up your own mind ;)

The entire film was written, shot and edited in only 24-hours. Thirty teams competed in the challenge, each having to incorporate the same four elements in their film

- Horror genre
- Bottle of TFC poison
- Latex Gloves
- The word "Legend"

I'm looking for feedback, as this was my first attempt. I was the director, cinematographer and editor - so any blame will rest squarely on my shoulders. The praise will go to my wonderful cast, and amazing production team.

Thanks in advance for your comments. Enjoy the film.

Peter

Hey there!

Just a reminder that if you've had a chance to watch "Zombie Nerd" and have any thoughts at all I'd love to hear them.

Feedback is the only way I'm going to grow as a filmmaker.

Since joining dvxuser earlier this year, I've learned a lot from watching other member films and reading the detailed feedback from other members. I'm hoping others can learn my experience as well.

If you'd like to know anything about the production, please let me know. I'd be happy to answer any questions.

Take care,

Peter (looking for feedback) Reynolds

Peter:

I find it difficult to be overly critical of such a project, given the time constraints. I mean really, how much can you expect to do in 24 hours?

The Good:
  • Make-up: I was very impressed with the make-up work, especially considering the short time-frame.
  • Opening title: Good graphics; gave a horror feel to the picture.
  • Story: Solid beginning, middle, and end.
The Bad:
  • Lighting quality varied from good to bad, some of this may be due to YouTube compression or what not.
  • The strangling scene needed to be a little more intense I think, perhaps with some more gurgling sounds as the girl is being choked.
The Ugly:
  • Handheld shots: I was unimpressed with the handheld camerawork. I'm not saying I could do any better, but it really detracted from the film.
Looking forward to seeing your future work!

John

Hey there,

I saw your film at the original screening on the 24th. It was a funny movie and I think the makeup was quite cool. There were a few technical issues with the lighting as mentioned above. It is difficult to make a film in 24 hours (I know we did one as well) so you should be proud of what you did.

Cheers

Dino
