HVX Package For Sale

Well, the time has come... I'm stepping into RED territory and because of this I've decided to sell my HVX. I'm offering the full package as one unit; it's a great deal for anyone looking to get shooting with the HVX and avoid the hassle of having to find a bunch of accessories. As with all of my equipment, everything has been very well cared for... several of the items haven't even been removed from their sealed plastic bags and the camera will ship in its original mint condition box. Any questions, please feel free to send a PM. :)

The full lot includes the following:

- The AG-HVX200 itself
- Two (2) x 4GB P2 cards with their protective cases
- Extra high-capacity Panasonic Battery ($100)
- Panasonic AG-YUSC100 Case ($185)
- 82mm Schneider (B+W) Multicoated UV Filter (been attached since before the camera even left the store - the camera lens is MINT and untouched - $110)
- 82mm to 72mm stepdown ring (for use with the Redrock M2; you normally have to buy this separately)
- All other HVX accessories including remote, battery charger, AC adapter, HD component cable, neckstrap, blank warranty card, software, and original box. Camera still has several months of warranty coverage left.

Asking price is $5,950. I will accept PayPal, personal checks, money orders, etc. The camera has seen light use and was primarily used to shoot my recent short film, "The Faithful." It comes from a smoke-free home and is looking for a new enthusiastic owner! Thanks for looking.

Just FYI, you are asking about $500 more than what it would cost for a similar package buying brand new.

Hey guys, thanks for looking out for everyone.

Maybe you should PM Haakon about the price instead, though? He's a really reasonable guy.

Maybe I should have mentioned that unlike other "bargain" deals, the camera doesn't look like it's been in a fight with a chainsaw. :-P

Actually, it appears to be about the same price as the camera all by itself...

EVS is one of the most expensive places to buy the HVX200. Abel Cine has it for $5,300 and Spec-Comm has a special that brings it under $5,200 brand new with the 8GB card and you get some extra goodies with it.

Haakon's price is good. I just I think it sucks for people trying to sell their HVX200s at this time of year because Panasonic is offering such a great deal.

Storm Factory, your math is off and I'm sorry, but you will not be in charge of purchasing on my productions. How is his price a good one, if a new camera and warranty with an 8 gig card and the HVX book is $5300, and his used camera is 5900 with a couple of hundred bucks of extra stuff. Even if Panie didn't have the deal, used hvx's with 2 8 gig cards are selling for 6-6.5 k max. Someone scored an hvx with 2 4gig cards yesterday, albeit as Haakon said, post fight with a chainsaw (the lens cover anyway) for 4k. Am I missing something?
No offense Haakon. Good luck selling your gear.

Haakon's price would have been great three weeks ago before Panasonic announced the 8GB rebate. I think it would have sold within a day. His price will be good (not great) January 1st when their rebate is over. Another thing to consider is you are buying it from someone who knows how to use it and is one this board. Having that extra bit of comfort to know that you're not getting bricks in a box is nice.

I'm buying a new one from Spec-Comm today for under $5,200. I saw that used one with the scratched lens hood for $3,900 and let it go. I'll let Dino take that risk.

With that said, right now Haakon is screwed because you are right the math doesn't add up. I think everyone who wanted to sell their HVX200s just lost $250 to $500 by waiting. Now when people buy these used, even after January 1st, they are going to expect the camera to come with at least one P2 card.

And it did not sale. Listing it on eBay with a $6,000 dollar price tag is hard when there are numerous Buy It Nows on there for under $5,000. Like I said, Panasonic's deal boned people trying to sell their gear.

Evolve, after some more thought, I think this package is overpriced by about $1,500 dollars. I think getting more than $4,500 at this point for what is offered would be lucky. I don't think, even after January 1st, the prices will go back up on used packages. With the Red One coming out more and more HDV and HVX200 users will be dumping their cameras to get a Red and flooding the used market with sub-$4,000 packages.

I revise my previous statement to say that I think HVX200 users just lost more in the neighborhood of $500 to $1,000 in resale value on their cameras.

Uhm... no they didn't.

A) RED will not be available to anyone outside of the reservation holders. You also can't expect it to ship first of the year.

B) HDV cameras or not, the HVX200 is still "the" camera to have until more people get their hands on and produce high-quality narrative/video/documentary work with it and showcase it.

C) The HVX200's workflow is still signature to itself. P2 is safer than Firestore. Period.

D) You still have to wait 4 to 6 weeks for your FREE 8 gig card, which means you will either purchase a 4 gig until you get it, or another 8 gig.

E) The numerous ebay buy-it-nows are unsure sales. Could be for grey-market cameras. You never know what you're getting. Haakon's is a genuine panny product that comes with everything. If I'm right, Barry's HVX book as well. If you want a grey-market camera, why don't you buy one from Ebay?

The camera that he's selling is, at minimum, worth 5k with included accessories. If he asks anything under that, then you'd be the lucky person to nab it. 2 4gigs is better than 1 8gig. If you've worked with the camera, than you know that. If you wanted one cheap, you should've bought the 3900.00 Chainsaw-tragedy.

Dino must be one happy camper... because last I checked, a lens hood is cheap....

Let's stop crowding his thread with how much he should be selling it for and let him sell it at what he thinks is a fair price. Haakon is a long-standing, well-respected member of these boards. I think he can judge for himself how much he wants for his camera.

If you don't want to buy it, find another one.

kholi, you're hilarious. First you post a 5 point reasoning on the pricing not only on Haakon's, but also price speculation on all used hvx's in the future, and then you tell everyone to stop using the thread for a reasoning on the pricing of Haakon's camera, while generating the longest post of the thread. At best, bully.

By the way, Haakon, I'm interested in your camera. Please PM me with your best price. Thanks.

Hey guys,

I appreciate the concern and the nice words on the personal level. My dilemma is that I have put over $7,500 into this package and the only reason I'm selling it is because I need to save money for Red. Believe me, I'm not an idiot and I fully understand that equipment will depreciate in cost over time. However, going from $7,500 down to (one person's suggestion) of $3,800 in 6 months is a little more than crazy. Obviously, it's the free P2 card thing that's throwing this whole thing off, and although Kholi is right that you'd have to wait awhile for the card (which you need to use most features of the camera) and the fact that two 4 gigs are better than one 8, it's still the value for the money that is probably going to be more of a factor to people.

I don't fault anyone at all; it's just bad timing for me, I guess. It was my feeling that offering the whole package for $1,500 less than I paid for it less than half a year ago would be quite generous, but obviously there are other factors out of my control. The nice thing about the HVX is that there are no moving parts (well, unless you decide to use the tape deck), so if you take care of the camera, it will last you a long, long time. On my particular camera, I even put the UV filter on the lens before it ever left the store, so the glass hasn't even felt the wisp of the crisp outside air yet. :) Point is, the optics are mint, and because of that and everything else I'm including, I just can't see selling the package for $4,000 or something like that. If someone is in need of a complete setup and would like to make a reasonable offer, I'll absolutely be willing to listen, but I'll probably just hold onto it until the P2 rebate ends at this point... there's only a month left on that deal and I just can't afford to take such a huge hit at this time.

Thanks for understanding, though... I appreciate the feedback and I am glad to be surrounded by such awesome filmmaking peers!
