Why is it the dvx100 looks like home-video footage?

I can use my personal expereince to give an example. When I first bought my DVX100A, I immediately started shooting footage. It looked like video. I then shot a short a few weeks later in 24p, and it looked pretty damn impressive on my big screen. That was without white balance or any changed settings. It's all about knowing what the settings are, and what they effect.

Honestly, you can get a really good picture with moderate effort which will look nothing like typical video. When me and my friends watched the short I had shot in 24p, the first remark was "This looks professional".

Before I buy any dvx100, i've been seeing a lot of dvx100p footages and 90 percent of them look like home-video footages. Something that came out of a crappy $200 hand-held camcorder. Maybe this is due because of poor lighting, or thte person who is using the dvx100p clearly does not know how to get the best ouf of the dvx100p.

The dvx100a and dvx100b looks so much better than the dvx100p, from what i've seen.

Anyone agree?
I think you're wrong on this. The footage/dailies is very professional looking.

Um, no. I got an Emmy nomination for a spot shot on the original DVX100, the first spot we ever used it for (which is long before I knew how to draw the best out of it!) Don't forget that an original, unmodified DVX100 shot "November", which went on to win the Best Cinematography Award at Sundance.

The tool is plenty capable. It is capable of phenomenal results. It's also capable (in the wrong hands) of rendering awful results. It's all up to the skills behind the camera; if you can deliver on your end of the bargain, the DVX is plenty capable of keeping up its end of the bargain.

By chance, were these wedding videos?

You shot in 24p or 24pa?
