Hey everyone, tried searching but had no luck ...

I was planning on getting a panasonic 50 inch plasma tv with 720p, but when I went to the store the other day, I saw the 60 inch 1080p sony sxrd slim projection tv. The sony was on sale for 2200 and the panny was 2800. After comparing the look of both tv's, the sony seemed sharper even in 720p, and looked even more stunning with a blu-ray source. The only downside I could see was that the colors didn't pop as much on the sony (I couldn't notice any motion artifacting).

Does anyone know anything else about the sony that would help me make my decision better? I know I have to change bulbs occasionally but for the price it seems worth it. I'm also planning on using it occasionally as a production monitor for editing hvx footage so I'm wondering how accurate the sony could be over the panasonic. Do you guys think it will work fine?

Thanks for the help.

Edit: One more question I forgot to ask:

It seems that 1080p won't be broadcasted for a while, but can't the 1080i signal from my cable provider be processed as 1080p by my tv if the original source is progressive? That is, when an hd channel presents a movie that was shot on film and doesn't have interlacing in 1080i, won't that appear as 1080p on my tv? It seems like it would be possible given the fact that the hvx outputs a 1080i stream but is still progressive.

I'm not sure but you could also try checking out avsforum.com
They have a lot of good info on tv's and stuff like that

Sony creates Series lines, Each TV and Line are differnt. It all depends on teh TV. Now as for quality, LCD vs. Plasma's. LCD dont go over I think it is 42", one over that size that are Plasma's which have more glare, so basically not better for brighter rooms. Plasmas are like looking at a mirror sometimes. Size wise, why not just get a projector if you dont care about making the room dark?

You really need to see the same video on both TV's to make a decision. You need to weight, whether or not you want to choose Sony's line which crushes their blacks and boosts the saturation a little to much in my opinion. OR if you want Panasonic, which doesn't is marking down all their TV's because it really is not a strong enough market because people see price vs. size and don understand what they are sacrificing. Again it is all personal preference.
