Best way to contact celebrities?

No, I'm not a stalker. (That's what they all say.) I just want to interview some actors and musicians for a non-profit organization. It would only be an e-mail questionaire, not a face-to-face interview. Fairly simple.

So how do you contact them or their managers? Or do any of you know a celebrity (tv/film/music) who might help get the ball rolling? (The first interview is always the hardest.)

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I believe that IMDB has a way to contact the celeb's agents. This may only be available to subscribers though.
Good luck with your endeavor,
Capt. Quirk- currently sitting outside the Olsen twins window...

Great idea. I just registered with IMDB for their free 14 day trial. It allows access to a ton of contact info for managers, publicists, and actors. Will start sending out e-mails and hope a few reply. Thanks and say "Hi" to the twins. :)

I'd shoot for smaller celebs first, some that may actually read their myspace messages.... depending, they may want proof of non-profit or something before they lend you their name..

Are you talking dead or alive? 'Cuz it makes a difference. :)

Live celebrities = agent
Dead celebrities = seance

Just messin' with ya, PK. "I got nuthin'..."

They usually contact me... through their lawyers and the court system.:)

If the celebrity in question has a website, it's usually pretty easy to get in touch with them through that.

If you contact them directly you automatically black-list yourself. Find out who their agent or their lawyer is and contact them. They often like faxes more than emails because it seems like you put more effort into it. and use very formal and polite language - like a job application.

I know there is a registry of agents and who they represent on the web... I just can't remember what it is. I'm sure someone else here knows.

I would suggest you contact agents and the respective performers unions. AFTRA or SAG or such. I have done a few fundraisers over the years and learned these folks are usually booked a year or more ahead. And if they aren't booked by their agent, they hold their "time off" and consider it precious. I have spent days in L.A. waiting for the 15 minute window to shoot a "STAR" who decided they would rather do something else first. Not all are like this but unless you are doing their "charity' or are connected it can be tough.

WOW! Thanks, everyone. Just stepped away for a moment and BAM! more great replies and advice.

I will definitely go through the correct channels. (Wouldn't want to be blacklisted. Although, being on any list would be kind of cool.) :)

Terry - Dead celebrities are sometimes easier to contact than live ones.

Brandon, got your PM and sent a Reply. :)

It's late here, time for sleep. Thanks again for all the help.

I know some celebraties....

Two words: Barry Freaking Green!

- Mikko ... can't remeber who originally said that, but it's funny.

What sort of interview? Subject matter, what it's for, etc.

Send me your email addy and some more info, and I'll pass it along to my friends, see if they want to contact you.

'Twould be rude doing it the other way. And I'm hardly ever rude. Mostly. :)

No guarantees, of course.

Even better, if it's a "form" they're going to be filling out, I could pass it along. They might even want for me to pass it back to you...paranoia about having their return-address 'out there'.

Does anybody remember that short vid that was supposed to be sent out to the troops in Iraq? Some guy (from LA, I assume) put up this total home-made, crappy looking vid of all these A-LIST celebs wishing the boys good luck... this guy was in Steven Tyler's foyer and stuff like that... it totally blew my mind how an unknown got this kind of access to these celebs...

Since it's for a good cause I hope that you can get what you need... jeez you deserve it as much as any other charitable organization I could think of... how cool would it be to have a short vid on the Isara main page with Steven Tyler singin' a little ditty about helmet safety in Thailand?

It's a throw-back to an old thread. Somebody was name dropping celebs and this poster started his own name dropping rant... "Barry Freaking Green" was one of the names. It was funny then and it's still... awesome...

I like dropping these names with that same crazed enthusiasm as if it's going to mean anything to the group of 20 something actresses on set... the really dumb thing is I'm doing comedy for myself as if I am my own friend and I'm watching myself in the third person... is that crazy?

I just call it 'amusing myself'.
