1 fps @ 1080i - for Barry

This is for Barry:

Just received your Book and HVX Bootcamp, they're both great!
In the variable frame rate section you mention it is possible to obtain a 1fps rate in 1080i30p mode by using the interval @ 1f/1s. Sounds good, but we're still limited to using 1/15 shutter speed right?

Correct. If you want a slower shutter speed you have to use the "frame rate hack" and shoot 2fps @ 350 degrees, for a 1/2-second exposure.

Or get an FS-100 and set it to record Time Lapse at 1fps with any configuration of HVX camera settings.

Sorry, couldn't hold back...

Thanks BenB! I was actually hoping to get access to 1/2 shutter speed in 1080i mode. Shooting a corporate film in a month, we've decided the added sharpness of 1080 is worth all the workflow issues. I guess we're going to have to uprez 720p timelapse footage.

With the FS-100, you set up your HVX in whatever mode/settings you want. Then you set the FS's Time Lapse for the interval between frames, from 1 frame to 24 hours. Then you hit record on the FS, not the HVX, presto, time lapse with any HVX setting.

I wasn't aware of this, there's no doubt that's a very nice feature. However not having access to at least a 180d shutter for a given frame rate limits its possible applications.

But the FS-100 won't let you have access to 1/2 second in 1080 mode. That's just not possible on the camera. The only way to get at those longer exposure times is to use the frame rate hack. Without the frame rate hack, the longest exposure time you can get is 1/12th.
