How much better is HVX compared to DVX when doing greenscreen work.

Hi there,

Let's assume the lighting is good and the greenscreen is evenly lit.

How much better is the 4:2:2 colorspace the HVX can record in certain modes over the DV format colorspace?

I'm spoiling myself Xmas with either a DVX100B or an HVX200.

There is a big price difference which isn't a problem, I just don't want to waste money.

I know there are many advantages to the HVX, but I'm specifically looking at the greensceen results between the two.

Thanks for everyones time.

Derrick, there's no comparison... the HVX is the best camera for keying in its price range or several higher ones when on-board recording is concerned... shoot DVCPRO 50, Digital Betacam quality superb keys... shoot 1080 for terrific HD keys...

Regards,

The color space is twice the resolution of DV, so you won't see the jagged, stairstep lines requiring a chorma blur. Keying in 4:1:1 takes quite a bit of work. 4:2:2 is much better.

Also, HD resolutions give you a lot more pixels per inch, so key lines are a lot smoother not even taking into account the color space difference.

If money is no object, it's a no-brainer -- get the HVX.

Thanks for the info,

The HVX is probably worth the extra money, but P2 cards are way to expensive.

But I could go directly to something like a FireStore.

Thanks again, the HVX it is then. (I wonder if I should rap it an put it under the tree ... hie hie)

Price is relative. Each P2 card costs about as much as a roll of 16mm processing and transfer so it's pretty darn cheap. It looks about as good as 16mm as well.

I too concur on the greenscreen. I was never pleased with my DV greenscreening and the HVX greenscreen is awesome. Not even in the same league.

Search the archives here, I did a greenscreen comparison between the HVX in DV mode, and the HVX in DV50 mode. Suffice it to say that DV50 mode blew away the DV mode, by a large margin.

thanks for the feedback,

I looked at the comparisons and the HVX does win by a mile.

Thanks! That's the one then.
