Could Panasonic buy RED? How much?

How much do you think the company RED is worth to another company like Panasonic. I have noticed alot of extra love at dvxuser for the RED cam and I am wondering if Jim will sell the company to Panasonic or somebody. So how much? I guess 80 million. I think Panasonic could buy the RED division from Oakley/Jim for that price before launch. Panasonic could use that red codec and make some very interesting products. I am not really wishing that it happens just curious.
 
I don't know if this is something that really needs a conversation, but I would think if a person like Jim Jannard sold RED it wouldn't be for money. I don't know Jim, but judging by what people say about him on the web and the fact that he's a billionaire and doesn't appear to be doing it for the money, I can't see it happening.

Plus, that just wouldn't be cool and Jim seems like he all about cool.
 
Panasonic could obviously afford to buy it, Matsushita is a massive megaconglomerate. But they could only buy it if Jim were willing to sell. Red isn't a publicly traded company, there's no possibility of launching a "hostile takeover" or anything. It is and can be as independent as it wants to be for as long as they want to be.

And Jim's already said that Red isn't for sale.
 
How much is Red worth to Panasonic? 17,500 dollars. Come on, I'm sure they're a reservation holder. :)

Why Pana and not Sony or any other else even coming from outside of this industry? From the movie business, for instance? Well, I hope not. But sometimes, this Pana (or anything else) obsession, it bores my sensibility.

I know this is the dvxuser.com and I am a member here, I was a Pana customer and I wouldn't mind to be again (I'm a matsushi_ta buyer these says though I'm not satisfied with my JVC HD & DVD recorder but well, these are other stories...) -- BUT the RED camera is more than a brand, it's a concept.

The RED project is a business but also a dream from a visionaire. And shared for a special clientele. Like this community -- «powered By Filmmakers like you».
