Hiya folks...been lurking here for a coupla weeks as I've tried to decide between the Canon XL2 and the DVX100b. Made my decision on Monday (thanks in large part to what I've seen here) and my new 100b arrived this afternoon.

I just have a coupla noob questions:

1. What would you consider to be accessories in the following categories:
-You'd Be a Fool NOT to Get This
-I'd Snag This if I Have Some Extra Moolah
-Unlimited Budget (so-to-speak)??? I'm Buying This Today!

2. What resources are there (print, dvd, online) that I should make part of my library?

I'll be editing on a Mac G5/4.5G RAM/1.3 TB storage/Final Cut Pro/AfterEffects 6.5 and also using Lightwave 9 and Maya (with an outside shot of snagging Shake in the next month or so).

I've seen some GREAT work on this site. You folks are amazing...and I hope I can contribute to the community.

Wahoo!
Rob

congrats on the purchase!

you have quite a hoss of a computer. im using a last gen powerbook. whatever works though, right?

as far as accessories goes, i would get a nice tripod, a light kit, and a nice mic.

if i had the money, id like a nice tube preamp for voice overs and audio recording...not sure if that applies to your application or not. prepare for 30 million people tell you to get a 35mm lens adapter of some type. they are really cool, but it's up to you if youre into it or not. i could go on forever about things i would like...american tele? haha.

good luck, and happy shooting!

Thanks, Adam. I'll add those things to my weesh leest and get ready for the attack of the lense-adapter people.

Yeh, I've had my G5 since last July...been slowly building it up to industrial strength. It's a fun tool to have. Of course, now I've gotta start saving up for the stinking quad-core.

Like the website and The Monday Show, btw.

Peace!

Rob, Congrats on the purchase. All you really need is that G5 and camera to start making some product. How proficient are you with Maya? Any links or work you can post up? I'm just curious and starting to get real interested in 3d.

Geoff - a major noob with Maya. Got a steal of a deal on Unlimited 7.0 a month or so back, but haven't had a chance to dig in yet. I'm planning on working through some tutorials over the Christmas holidays. I'm much more comfortable in Lightwave, but even in that I'm still very new and feeling my way.

Love the Raw Image website.
