hey im new to filming with 24p and need some help. i first used letterbox and when i edited in premiere i selected widescreen, was this correct? when i went to play it after i saved it, it was squished, but when i uploaded to youtube it wasnt squished??? if i burned to a dvd and played on my tv, would it look like it does in windows movie maker (squished), or would it look like it does in youtube? should i set it to non widescreen when i use letterbox?

and when i use squeeze fit, if i edit it as widescreen and burn to dvd, will it come out squished like it looks when filming on the camera, or would this make it fit on a normal tv?

Letterbox is not widescreen. It's a 4:3 image with black bars on the top and bottom.

You can use letterbox and crop the black bars and export as true widescreen, but it's not widescreen on its own.

Squeeze mode is widescreen.

okay so i should not have captured it as a widescreen video... well i just tested with 4:3 after filming with letterbox and it is the exact same outcome. it looks stretched when i watch it in real player and windows movie maker and stuff, but when i uplload it to youtube it comes out just right.

also if i film in squeeze mode and play it from the camera to the tv its just stretched up and down. if i use squeeze mode, edit in premiere as a widescreen, then burn to dvd. will it look on the tv like it did from the camera (stretched up and down) or will it have black bars on top and bottem and make it fit?

Some software interprets the presence of the letterbox bars to mean the footage is widescreen.

I second David's comments, and it just so happens that Premiere does that very thing. I would should without bars, and add later, or uprezz, or whatever you want. But I would do it all in post.
