Hey everyone,

Check out the brand new R&B music video by the very talented Solcetfre Project ft. William Trice (pronounced Soul – Set – Free). The video was produced by Green Bench Productions and directed by John Holland.

http://www.greenbench.tv/videos/Solcetfre.wmv

The video was shot with a DVX100B, two Lowel lighting kits and a Glidecam 2000 Pro. We had a budget of only $350. We shot at 5 locations (some we rearranged around to look differently) over the span of 3 days. I got about a total of 6 hours sleep between Friday morning and Sunday Night.

Feedback is appreciated!

YES YES YES ....Very nice...

couple of things......

1. Shadows are the worst....amd a few times the shadow of your glidecam Op were in the shot. (at the resturant and on the couch.) Try to avoid that.

2. The bathroom scene at the end...didn't quite understand that. Plus the different color temp of the lighting in there really degraded the shot.

These were the only thing that really stood out as negatives (so good job!)

AS for the GOOD.

WOW...really nice beach shots, really liked the solo shot infront of the ripple blanket. was there and blurred or promist type of filter on that shot it really looked softer (which was very nice) than the rest.

Overall Really really nice!

Thanks!

Glad you all liked it. The bathroom scene at the end was to leave for your imagination, but you're not the only one who didn't get it (I probably should have done that better), and I agree, I should have thrown a gel'd light in there.

I really enjoyed doing this video. It was hard at first being the only person working on it (directed, shot, edited and produced it alone). But my friends helped me out a lot in the end.

I used Adobe Premiere Pro to edit and I used Magic Bullet for color correciton.

Wow baller (wish I knew your name). Anyway, I'm really getting to where my heart jumps whenever I see your name in the DVX clips folder because I know it's gonna be a good one! This was a very nice shot and edited music vid. I loved the mix of colours and your use of scenery. You were really feeling that Glidecam eh?! How'd you pull that with only $350 anyway? Rented, borrwed or already had it?

Just a few comments:
(1) Two scenes where actors looked right at camera in a way that was not purposeful or planned. (One of the slow dancers and the female co-lead on the beach.)
(2) I also didn't get the bathroom scene. My first thought was, ok maybe they're going to shower together or something but it really didn't fit with the flow of the video.
(3) Having already seen the Greek modeling reel you did, and the hip-hop video, then watching this, one thing I kept thinking was ... "that looks exacty like ..." Too many similarities. You definitely don't want to develop a predictable style like that. I know nothing about the music vid biz but would assume that like actors, you don't want to become "type cast." Ex. MB filters used on some scenes (that nighttime bluish tint thing). Also the bluish tint during the dancing. And the wavy satin sheet thing in the background was the same as on the Greek modeling video.

Other than those minor things though, this was way cool. My respects to the music talent also. I didn't too much dig the song itself but it's nice to see "real" people in a music video--not untouchably fit and attractive dolls that no one can relate to.

GREAT JOB ... AGAIN

I'm honored that you enjoy my work like this!

Interesting story:

The satin backdrop and all that from the step show promo was originally meant for this video, but since the Zeta's came at me at the last minute (day before), I ended up using that. But I understand you on the being type casted stuff.

i really like it. im a video show producer out of philly. my show plays hip hop and rnb videos. we reach over 2.5 million house. i would love to play your video on the show. email me at brucedavis_20@hotmail.com

Did you add a strobe effect to some of your shots? There is an effect that I often see in Music Videos lately and I saw you used it in your video but I am not sure what its called or how to do the edit. Only thing I can thnk of is some sort of Strobe effect. I will have to watch your video again and tell you exactly where it is.

I'll be honest with you...that is an effect that I didn't intend to do lol. I did the slow motion effect in twixtor, and for some reason, when you export to .wmv, it adds a strobing effect to the slow motion footage.

I tried to figure out a way around it, but the artist thought it was cool (and intentional), so I left it.

I think the video was nice. I checked out some of your other things and I noticed that you favor a lot of shots with a side profile.

Hey man ... I'm feelin this video. Good work. Couple things that stuck out ...

Intro - for the first and most important shot .. the wobbling landscape (beach) is troubling .. it just feels a bit unsettling. A calm still shot would be sweet.

On a similar note ... theres a cross dissolve somewhere in there that starts with the beach and goes to the male artists head. Problem is that as the dissolve takes place we see a sharp line running through his head (as the result of the beach line - where water meets sand is prominant). Reminds me of the spear going through the priests back in the photo in The Exorcist.

Other than that ... looks really sweet. I can see it being shot on film.

Naw it wasnt the slow motion shot. Since I have a MAC, I dont have a way to watch .wmv files here at home. So I will have to wait till I go back to work to watch again and I will tell you the part I am referring to. Oh yea I love the transition from going from the guy at the bar and panning down on his black jacket then the next shot is that spinnng light thing in the club! I love transitions like that! I see that technique a lot on the CBS show "Cold Case".

Yeah, I love side profile shots. It's just something about them.

I'll have to look at it again. Are you sure it wasn't a slow motion scene? I have a lot of shots in there that are in sync with the song but are actually slowed down (fast playback during shooting).
