Hi,

What package is the expandore guys throwing in for you? My friend and I got good packages from them. Can't remember the price package but can check out for you. Its one of the cheapest. PM me when you are coming in.

Cheers,
Derrick

basically you have :-

-expandore (!7, Jalan Besar Street) they are good
-Sensys also supply but they do not have a simple walk in store - get hold of them via their website : http://www.sensys.com.sg/
-there is also a shop at Sim Lim square called Pro Video (2 mins walk from Expandore) and they can be found by the ground level entrance before you get into the building. I do not know how good their reputaton is though. I just know they deal in pro-equipment and have seen the DVX on the shelf.

I would email Sensys right away and see what they have - ask for some free accessories. Also if you have an old Camera you want to trade - Panasonic have some trade in deals. However this may only apply to the HVX.

If you want I can contact my friend at Panasonic Singapore and see what deals they may give you ? let me know.

David

Do not use sensys under any circumstances whatsoever. The head guy, Eddie, who was dealing with us, sold us a DVX102b at 4k and refused to let us bargain even though places like Sim Lim would. They claim to be a Panasonic distributor and hence have lower prices but they really dont. Your best bet is still Sim Lim because you can drive a hard bargain because things are so competitive there.

My own personal experience with Pro Video is bad too. I bought an XL2 from them at a reasonable rate but found out that there was a faulty warranty and that the unfriendly salesman deliberately jacked up prices of accessories later.

I'd personally recommend:

Benard Yam
Hai Chew Electronics Pte Ltd, #01-53/54, Sim Lim Square
6336 7174

I didn't buy any cameras from this guy, just 100 DV tapes, but he appears to be rather professional, not that pushy as most Sim Lim shopkeepers are, and very knowledgable about his stuff (He actually knows stuff about film and treats is as such; not just as a means of making profit).

And...

No, in case you're wondering, I'm not being paid off by then for adverts or something =P

And umm sorry for disagreeing with ya fantasticfilm. I just had to say it cuz I had bad experiences in both places.

Hey thanx guys ..

BTW I am gonna be arrving singapore on Friday at 1400hrs 9 (2.00 PM) and leaving the same night ..

Is the market open on Fridays ...

Hey derrick .. I haventchekc yer with expandore for detailed packages but once I do decide.. I will let you know ... Thanx for the info ..

They're open till quite late. I suggest you take a cab there from the airport or else call ahead if you have a phone. They might have the camera in their shop or they might have it in their warehouse. If its the case of the latter, you may have to wait a day or two for them to deliver.

Yeah you should. Tell them to have a camera in stock by the time you arrive. Something like that. But be warned that they'll most probably expect you to buy it if you ask them to have a camera on standby for you.

yes

yes

yes- if we are talking about pricing - then BLT is right, however I do place as much importance on the warranty and so I am going to be giving you a stern warning on Grey market stuff in Singapore - there is alot.

OF course if that does not interest you - then you should just go for the cheapest option from the start - but that will not be the end of it - as most of us know - it cost more in the end.

Just buy from a dealer as you are taking it back to your home country and you will want to have a valid warranty that you can get comeback with.

So I guess we don't disagree BLT - just different ways of doing things. :)

True true...

personally , the warranty isnt that important for me as I dont think I would be travelling to singaore for long time ...

I guess that's the risk i gotta take ...

fantasticfilm .. when u say grey market .. does that mean stolen or used .. or is it just from a different market ...

Good Question - Grey Market is not stolen.

It is kinda like a backdoor sales arrangement.
Let's say Panasonic has trade relationships with Distributors in Singapore, but there are importers who have found the same product in Japan through a wholesaler or large buyer and can import it into Singapore without speaking to one Panasonic representative.
This means the camera is made in the same factory but passes through a different distribution channel that is made up specifically for big retailers who would usually offer their own warranty in-house(or none at all.)
Panasonic / Sony / Samsung etc. cannot avoid these channels because the volumes are so big - BUT they do not offer any after sales service and will usually offer a % of the consignment FOC(Free of Charge) to cover an informal warranty.

This is your grey market camera - it will be no different from the one from the dealers except if it breaks after 1 hour of filming because of a factory defect. (very possible in electronics of any kind) the grey market buyer is in a real bad position - but the guy who bought from an authourized dealer will basically not have to worry about a thing.

That said - if a camera is stolen or dropped in a lake - the grey market buyer will still have some spare cash to buy beer and wash away their sorrows!!!

hope this helps

pretty clearly ...

so is expandore a authorised seller ... or are they any authorized sellers in Sim Lim ..

Damn ... I definitely am gonna contact you guys once I am there ...

Expandore have a good name/reputation and you won't really regret dealing with them.
Remember alot of guys are going to quote you a price - make you agree and then write the invoice and add GST!!!!....

Be clear from the beginning of the GST in your negotiation because it will make the honest guy who is giving you a fair deal seem more expensive then the crooked guy down the road. Yes you get the GST back (most of it) but to try and compare pricing this should be your primary focus.
- i mean getting the right and final price inc. gst so you can compare apples with apples.

thanx ..

hey fantasticfilm .... is it cheaper to get it from japan ... or anyother suggested place you would know ... what price could I get ... a ball park figure ... (with gst ;) )

yeah - japan is probably cheaper - but it would be ntsc - not a 102 B.....

I have the 100a ntsc - but that is because i like to work in ntsc and not pal.

not sure if this will make a difference to you.

Pricing in Singapore - well I really am not sure what the exact pricing will be for the camera from panasonic - of course you can get the camera cheaper from some of the other dealers but there is always a reason for a better price - really.
if it seems too good to be true - it usually is
