Mark and Ted's Excellent Adventure in Drama

So how is casting going guys, seriously?

Jason
Well, I am very happy with our casting process. We have seen some incredible talent.

We are going to be announcing our cast soon but we have one more actor to see tomorrow. After that, I believe we will be able to announce.

It has been amazing. I have really pulled a lot out of our actors while auditioning and I know that we are going to have amazing performances from them.

The one common comment we get from our auditioning actors is that they really appreciated the comfort and professionalism of our sessions. And when we tell them that every single actor will be notified whether they are cast or not, they just light up.

I am overall proud of how we structured the auditions.

Thanks for asking. It is a great question and if anyone ever wants to talk privately with me about the process, I will be happy to share.

Ted

Yes, that sounds very good, as far as how you handled auditions. I hate auditioning. I suck, suck, suck at it! Hate it

Jason

I used to suck at auditions. I always felt that I needed the "road" to developing the character and understanding the nuances and such. I hated auditions.

I have gotten much better as I have gotted older and wiser.

I am better, but I still suck. It is a hard thing for me. What you said about the "road" I can relate too. I not only used to suck through auditions, but through most of the rehearsal process too, and made my director pull her hair out. I just stayed curled up tight while I soaked everything in and processed it, and "felt it out". Until it was finally do or die time, and I was forced to... well, do or die.

But I took a couple of years off, came back, still sucked at auditions, but made it a point to take better advantage of the rehearsal process. That part, I think I have made great progress. It's a little awkward at first, but now I love trying out things in rehearsal, and such. Instead of just scheming it in my head. If that makes any sense at all.

Man I think I killed the thread. oopsie. Somebody put up some more fat girl or something :) Wait. That was rude. Somebody put up some more fat girl or something... Doh!

Jason

Hey Ted, have you ever read the book "Audition" by Michael Shurtleff?

Man, you guys are killing me with that fat chick... :D

I have read that. A long time ago. We had it for a class, but unfortunately it was one of those classes that were always getting cancelled. Stupid class getting in the way of the directors production :) But seriously, from what I remember (which my memory of it is vague) it was a decent read. Thanks for bringing that book up. I should go and read that again sometime soon.

Jason

Yeah Jason, you definitely should. It's one of the best straight-to-the-point reads for auditions and acting theory in general.

God these pictures RULE! I wish I had been on the boards earlier so I could've partaken in the photoshopping ;)

"Man she's been under for five minutes..." HAHAHA!!!!!!
Classic!

oh yeah, Ted... thanks for the phone call.
Here's what happened folks... I'm sitting at my buddies G5 looking over footage for The Corsairs as my phone rings.

Me: "Hello?"

Ted: "Hello? ...wait, who is this?"

Me: "Kyle..."

Ted: "Oh, Kyle! I was trying to get a hold of Mark! Do you have his number?"

Me: "You've been living with him for a week and you still don't even know his --"

Ted: "Yeah, well... we've been with each other in person. Do you have his number?"

Me: "Uh... yeah, I do. Do you wa--"

Ted (interrupting): "Wait! I think Mark is calling me! Thanks, Kyle, I'll talk to you later!"

... Lay off the booze, my friend =) "Mark" and "Kyle" look nothing alike! ;)

Much love!

Yes. It was quite a while ago for me as well (like Ramjet). I really don't audition anymore. But when I do, I usually feel like I nail them. I have grown a lot. I used to get too freaked out and put undue pressure on me. I no longer do that to myself. I go in and if I have a look and sound that they want, I feel like I will get the role. I just go inconfident.

Hey guys, just checked back in... good to see ya'll are havin' fun, and glad the auditions went well tonight :) Ted, send me that darn script!!!! I can't wait to see it!!!

Wow! I actually blocked that out

You know what happened? Mark and I were in the hot tub working the story. Then we got out to get ready for the audition. I decided to call my wife because I knew that she would probably be in bed before I finished the audition.

Well, I took too long talking and Mark left without me to the conference room (here in the apartment complex). I didn't even know where to go though he gave me a general idea.

I got off the phone with my wife and booked down. But this complex has locked gates everywhere! I got locked out and couldn't find Mark. So I tried to call him.

BUT, I don't have him in my phonebook. So I just looked for a recent call and got you!

I was so freaked out being by not being there and having a chance to set up my camera and survey the room. And then getting locked out!

Sorry about that! :)

And I am sorry that you missed out on the HOT TUB PHOTOSHOP SESSION. Here I was just posting a picture of Mark and I working and it turned into a free fo all!

I know what you mean... I would freak out too... but one of the keys to acting is relax relax relax... :)

I am still working on it. WAIT until you see this. It is amazing (I think!) Mark and I had a GREAT writing session while in the hot tub and I am still transcribing it!

Hopefully before I go to bed.

You know, I had SUCH a great time auditioning this actress that I totally blocked out the phone call to you.

I was so freaked out there for a bit!

Thanks for being my light in the storm! :)
