Expresscard to PCMCIA

When it's released, it will allow you to use PCMCIA and P2 cards on computers that don't have PCMCIA slots. Lots of new systems have only an ExpressCard slot and don't have PCMCIA slots anymore. This adapter lets you overcome that.

Yup, from what I've seen it runs hot though. The LAST thing a MacbookPro needs is more heat. So I'm guessing you won't see quad core anywhere near a laptop for at least 6 months or more.

The laptop versions of the Core 2 Duo processors are the same as the desktop versions, except they run at lower clock speeds to keep the power consumption and heat output under control.

Intel will undoubtedly eventually do the same with the Core 2 Quadro -- there is no reason why we won't see these processors in a laptop.

Interesting, I read somewhere that they were going to be released this year. Maybe November? Could we see a quad core macbook pro in 2007?

What I would love is a quad core macbook, not pro, with a PC Card slot, discrete graphics and FW 800. For $1200USD, but a great field machine.

I think it is great that Express adapters are being created to handle the P2 card. I've been waiting for this before I pick up an MBP. However, from a work flow standpoint, doesn't it make more sense to reserve the Express slot for SATA Raid (FirmTek), and have a FW or USB to PCMCIA adapter?

As it stands now the MBP generally only has a FW400 slot (I know the 17" has FW800). I would rather have the transfer speed high for video editing than for transfering P2 data.

Any info on a FW or USB to PCMCIA adapter?

it is still an adapter meaning a seperate thing (not incorporated in the laptop) which you have to carry around and which you can loose. So why not use a cable and the firewire connection instead?

Im told that the adapter it self can stay inside the laptop and it disconnects from the PCMCIA side, thats what i understsand from the website specs.

I believe this is correct.

Adapter has an expresscard/34 card on one side tethered to an cardbus reader. Plug adapter into EC/34 slot and p2 into MBP.

Boy, what happened to the Raider's Offense?

it rained, and it all starts with the offensive line, everything does, which shows how great the defense really is. Because the D is on the field way too long, and they are constantly battling the great field position the other team has since the team cant move up the field.

the Raider D is truly great. the O line is the cause for many problems. YES Walter is a developing QB, but cmon, now hes gotta atleast be able to take a 5 step drop and not have to dodge 2 line man, plus 2 of his own lineman who are getting run over.

UPDATE - Just got an e-mail from dual systems and they say that they are preparing to make the adapter available in two weeks for sale online worldwide. No hints on the price, I guess we'll just have to wait two weeks to find out. When they say late 2006, I see they mean Dec 31st. Just in time to use with the new 16gig card in Jan.

Cant' wait to find out how much these damned things are. Been waiting forever to hear about the adapters.

Im sure the only problem right now is with the software from Duel Systems, as ive got the Hardware in my hand, but still working out software issues on Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo ive got.

So the good news is that the hardware is ready to go, bad news is that the software (at least for Mac) is NOT.
Of course, I too have a Mac.

i wouldnt say that just yet, i have the software in hand as well. Just a small install problem which after some support i beleive is on my end, not theirs.
