Earopeans let's contact Panasonic !!!!!

I can tell you in Italy.
7000€ (2 8GB card bundled) (Than I pay 20% more. Vat I suppose, anyway taxes. But I get back this money as is counterbalanced (?!) with same 20% vat on my outgoing invoices.

And my Panasonic reseller, when I talk about prices in the USA, always tell me..."ok, buy there, or forget those prices since we're on a completely different market..."

you can't buy in the US since they have another broadcasting system (60/30 fps remember!!) than in Europe. So you get a HVX + 2 8 GB P2 card for 7000 euro, that is a real bargain. We pay more than 8585 euro without VAT for such a bundle !!!!

Wich PAL country has the lowest price?
Then you go there get the camera and you don't pay taxes. you can go through customs without any suspicious. The ticket and the camera together will always be much lower then get the camera in the Netherlands.
I just see that the PAL HVX is on accepting orders, BHphotovideo $5995,-. When it arrives you go there buy a ticket for 400 euries naar USA dan heb je nog steeds 2000 dollar winst.

But you Europeans have more culture, more history, better food, longer attention spans, and live longer -- isn't that good enough?

i agree on some points.
i just don't get why panasonic (the big one), when they authorize their US representative to offer a free 8g P2 card, doesn't tell the others to do the same in europe, asia, etc (even at the high local price).
Because that's not how it works. Nobody "authorizes" them to do anything. Each territory has, as far as I know, complete flexibility to market the product any way they want. If one territory decides that they're going to spend their marketing dollars on advertising, and another territory decides they'll spend their marketing dollars subsidizing a P2 card giveaway, neither of those affects the other divisions at all, and the factory doesn't have anything to say about it.

so .... nobody is driving the car?

It all depends on the duties your country decides to charge on foreign goods,

I just came back from exhibiting at Broadcast India. Video cameras shipped to India are apparently subject to 100% duty, they have to pay twice the price of what the camera is worth...crazy

then in these counrties the Gov't wonders why there is such a huge grey/black market

Hear, hear. Very good point.
The streetprice is around 4900-5000 now. If your country doesn´t have it buy somewhere else. As a netherlander buy in Germany and if you are a company you won´t even have to pay the VAT upfront. I bought my DVX in Germany. They have the lowest prices because they have competition in the supplier market. In small ountries there are only few places to buy a HVX. In Germany are hundreds.....so they fight on prices.

I think they are not bad: www.teltec.de

Least expensive PAL model? Maybe the China and HK model. Its selling 39 000 HK dollars without cards- That's about 3900 Euros.

ok, I got a reply: I sent to PanaEurope and gotr the respond from Pana Austria. So here it starts; different people in different countries.

Anyway they are not aware of the US-rebate and he kindly asked me to send him the link. I sent the official Panasonic.com rebate page. Let´s see how they respond now.

No.
Not if you are a company with a valid EU-VAT-ID. Then you don´t pay VAT outside of your country. And the shop has to have such a number registered, too, but basically every company has one nowadays.

Not exactly. In the EU, all company to company transactions are VAT obliged, mostly you pay VAT in the country that is receiving the goods. (intracommunautaire transactions). The transportorganisation together with the VAT identification-number administration takes care for that.

You always pay VAT within the EU.

Well, I am sorry, but I buy and sell a lot from, to and within the EU and there is no VAT invoiced. The countries I deal with are ITaly, Germany, Denmark, France, Netherlands etc.
There is no VAT exchanged in those cases (company - to - company deals), so nobody needs to have the cash. But in the worst cae you always get it back anyway.

that is the worst case. But if you buy such a camera it clearly is not for filming your kids grow up, but to use it in a professional way somehow. And if you are making shorts apply for the status as an artist which will not only relieve you of VAT but also reduces income taxes (at least in Austria). But to get the status of an "artist" you might have to kiss someones behind. I rather pay tax ;-)
