HVX200 for fashion shows

I'm wondering is AF speed of HVX200 in progressive mode 1080p is fast enough for this kind of work (models walking on the catwalk). As I remember DVX100A has too slow AF performance in progressive mode and my short initial tests shows me similar problems on HVX200.

Could you tell me what's your opinion about AF speed and accuracy in progressive mode of HVX200?

Do you use Steadycam Merlin with this camera?
What about new shining technology FW1256HD-120 CitiDISK™ HD disk recorder?
Is it better than Firesore FS-100?

I'll touch on only a few of your quesitons: Some folks have had success utilizing auto focus... but for the most part most of the users here are not leaving focus to chance because it is so critical in High Definition. As a result they are focusing manually. The Citidisk HD recorders have received less than stellar reviews by most users who have posted here. Firestore on the other hand seems to get high marks across the board. There are a lot of forum members waiting to see how the Cineporter shapes up once it hits the market.

I hope this helps.

A catwalk is rather controlled area. Why not rely on the distance reading and manula focus? I wouzldn´t leave it on AF in a show like that: too slow especially if the light is not bright enough.

The answer to this is: Stay away.
The FS-100 is a pricey investment for many. But it works. Very well.

Citidisk just recently released a firmware upgrade, but it does not solve the problems for the 120 GB

When I shoot weddings onto tape I use AutoFocus. It is slow but that goes both ways. During the reception with a bunch of people dancing I don't have the problem I use to have with my XL-1. That is, when I have dancers go past, because of the slower AF my focus doesn't go out when each couple goes by. My XL-1 use to constantly hunt for focus on the backs of Black Suits. No more with the HVX.

did 4 days at last london fashion week and AF in interlace mode hold fine...in progressive forget about it. hope that helps

Was that with an HVX200 or another camera? The reason I'm asking is that the HVX sensors are progressive, and whether you record the data in an interlaced or progressive format shouldn't matter for AF.

All I can say, having tried it both in progressive and interlace, is that the AF is significantly slower in progressive mode. In interlace the AF was fast enough to hold focus down the length of a 2 to 300 foot catwalk while progressive was completely unable to cope. I actually started a shoot backstage in progressive and the beginning of a show but had to switch to interlace in the middle in order to hold focus. (I personally can't deal with zooming, framing, and pulling focus while crammed into the tiny little space you usually manage to get in the press gallery. The AF was fine.)

Back in the day, I shot fashion shows as a still photographer.
The lighting systems were so bright,I do not see that being an issue for the HVX200.

The guys in front usually used flash, but way in the back, there were shooters who didn't even use flash.

I would love to see some footage of this runway when you are done. Sounds like something I would like to do.
