Okay, all you cold-footed brothers and sisters

I'm a Florida girl, born and raised... and when the temps outside drop, my feet turn to ice. I really cant stand wearing socks to bed. So how does a girl keep her feetses nice and toasty? In another lifetime, I would have wedged them in the bend of the knee of someone also having rights to partake of the slumber ritual in my bed. However, we can count that out as an option at present,,mkay?

I'm thinking a heating pad under the covers would be nice. Right now, my method consists of stacking things, clean laundry not put away yet, extra pillows, etc on my person. while wearing flannel jammie pants and two shirts....still my feet are freezing. And I feel like an exhibit of "stuff on my cat".

Just wondering how other people manage this. It keeps me awake at night. Like now.

CVS is open 24 hrs, and I know they have heating pads. But I'm too deep into my ambien seguey to risk anything more than a wish for one.

Just call me frozen feets thartley...

Goodnight.

When I used to live in a place with a dryer in the unit (damn I miss that) I used to throw my pajamas and comforter into the dryer half an hour before I went to bed.

...mmm toasty.

Draw a small bath, fill your sink with hot water, or get a small Rubbermaid foot soak tub.

Water transfers heat much better than air, and it stays warm for quite a while.

I can't help you. Always had the opposite problem. I need to have my feet out in the open air. Drives the wife nuts that I constantly untuck the bottom of the bed and stick my weather vanes out. Nothing is sweeter then having 30lbs of down on top of me, all toasty warm with just my feet peaking out the bottom.

Sleeping bags drive me insane.

I'm with wabbit - nothing better than about 20lb of hudson bay wool driving you into the matress with just a touch of frost on the tip of your nose. . .

As one who has the back of the knees attacked regularly, a couple of 2 liter soda bottles full of hot water sometimes make a good temporary defense. Bailey's coffee also seems to help.

I'm from Norway - a very cold country. I also have Raynauds syndrome which makes the capilaries in my skin contract when I get cold (also known as "smokers hands" though I don't smoke). as a consequence my hands and feet are always cold. It also gets worse with age.

I finally found a sollution: microwaveable heatingpacks in sandals. my girlfriend got me these weird blue sock/slipper thingys with some fabric bags filled with herbs or something. you just throw them in the microwave for 15 secs and you get these nice cozy heated slippers. they heat my feet enoug that I can fall asleep and then I kick them off in my sleep.

it's not these ones (mine are more like socks) but it's the same idea:

it might work for you. or alternatively just get a new bedbuddy )

I'm afraid I can't be of much help here. :) I'm the type of guy that sleeps with the windows open in the middle of the winter. I detest heat and everything associated with it!

That said, some of my family members have this problem and they often turn to the hot water bottle when things get bad. Maybe two since it's hard to target feet with those things. You might also try filling a bag with rice and throwing it in the microwave for a few minutes. It gets nice and toasty and conforms well to the shape of feet. We use them all the time in the clinic where I work.

I hear that. Whenever I use a sleeping bag I always find myself violently kicking my legs apart in the middle of the night, desperately trying to find some fresh air for my feet.

Okay, #1- one of you guys needs to patent the sleeping bag with zippered foot release.

#2--I finally got more sleepy than cold, so got some shut eye. Had to actually turn the heat on, but now I have a headache. (which is why I dont like to turnt he heat on) I'm gonna look for some of those foot warmer things, but also get a heating pad. The rice idea sounds interesting, but with the rice, I've been cheating lately and getting the Uncle Ben's already coked brown rice in the microwavable pouch. Rice is cheap, though. :)

Thanks....

I'm a Flordidian too, and I just don't see it being that cold. I went up to New Yawk at the begining of October, just the earliest start of winter. It was rainy and dipping into the 40's, everybody else was wearing sweaters and long britches, I'm wearing my Marlboro hoody, shorts and flip flops.

But, when it does get cold at night, I call the dog up on the bed. He'll sleep down by my feet, and everyone is warm and happy... which is also how the band 3 Dog Night got their name ;)

I was just in New Jersey/New York a couple weeks ago. It was a jolt to my delicate sensitivities to be taken from mid-80's and watching surf contests at the beach, to low-40's, rain, and wind so hard it laughed while changing your umbrella into a cosmic fruit bowl. I've never seen umbrellas invert repeatedly...they are single-use objects there.

But yeah, my feet get cold when temps dip. And being a single female, I of course have a cat, but he snores. heh!

Shaw. I am with you. Don't get me wrong, I don't like to freeze but I love the cold brisk air. I especially HATE car heat. You might as well inject me with a rhinoceros dart. 1 mile of driving with car heat and I am slumped over my steering wheel like a murder victim.

thartley...you consider getting an ELECTRIC blanket? On absolute FRIGID nights they can be fantastic. And I know a few people who love 'em. I'll bet that would do the trick!

Good point, I don't like to freeze either but there's nothing quite like a clear brisk morning!

Even though I also live in Norway, which really is a humid and cold country, I canNOT stand wearing socks. I hate them. I walk bare-foot as much as I can, there's nothing like fresh air for my feet. The only things that get cold on me are my fingers, they freeze up immediately, while the rest of my body is always nice and warm. Damn fingers.

It's my upper body that needs to be warm, hence the hoody sweater, shorts and flip flops. Once it gets windy, and in the 40's, then the long britches come out.
