I've been using vegas for some time now because before when I used Premiere it was really really sluggish and I dreaded it. I've been wanting to use After Effects for CC by importing a Premiere file so I decided to give it another shot. Boy am I glad I did, I reinstalled it yesterday and did a quick random edit of footage of my car then imported to After Effects for CC, this time Premiere was FAST just like Vegas:) I don't know why it was so slow before but now I love this new workflow, Premiere-->After Effects. So this is the clip I made after playing with different filters and effects in AF. Also I did the logo at the end in Vegas but I'm about to redo it all in After Effects, I haven't been this excited about filming and editing in months.

9mb 30 second clip

How did you exported the video to AE? as a video or as an image sequence? How long does it take to export and how long does it takes to Render in AE?

To export from Premiere to AE you just save the Premiere file then open it up in AE, it will retain the seperate tracks so you can edit each shot on it's own so there is no export time, you just save and open. The rendering wasn't that bad at all either, I don't remember exactly how long it took but it was around 4 minutes with all the effects applied on a 2.0gh 512ram dell computer with 3 hardrives.

So do you feel like you can't achieve that kinda of cc in Vegas? Which AE filters did you use? Also, what are the drawbacks from going from Vegas to AE? Vegas is definitely the easiest NLE to work with in my opinion. Can't you just export as a file and load in AE? Curious as to the benefits of going straight from Premiere. Looks great! Nice job.

Premiere has its quirks and gets sluggish on me too sometimes and then it seems to get better for no reason.

I've tried Vegas to AE but you have to render and import as a single track so you'd have to manually resplit the scenes to CC each shot individually, if someone knows a way how to retain the seperate tracks from Vegas to After Effects I would love to hear it!

I used Film Magic Pro(highly recommended for AE) from videocopilot.com for all of the looks, it renders fast on my computer, much faster than Magic Bullet. They are all presets and I did no tweaking to the settings but they are completely customizable if you choose. If they had made FMP for Vegas than I would love to use that instead but I don't think that's possible because of the AE filters. No I don't think some looks are possible in Vegas, also I like adding different effects like at the beginning of the clip there is a reverse fisheye lens effect and the headlights on the car were added in post, there are a couple of blurs also that only AE can do.
