MIKE DAWSON: Marketplace transaction

Another thing, I can't believe that some of you are getting pissed about this post. When I sell something, I make DAMN sure that they know when I shipped it and when it should get to them and I expect the same when I buy. It's total horseshi* to say that people "get busy".
Why the hell do you guys think I started this thread? Boredom? I have 8,000 things I'd rather do than fuc* around on the internet trying to see if I'm getting screwed out of my money.

Logan, i completely understand your frustration. Imagine if you didn't make the payment for two weeks then it would be the other way around. When i buy something, i always send the payment the same day or the next and i expect the same from the seller. Hell even 2 weeks would be too long to wait. I would of bugged him 4 days into it. I think people just talk a lot of sh*t until it happens to them. I've been rip off before so i know what that feels like. I hope everything works out for the both of you.

I've sold several things online and always ship immediately, follow up with an email with tracking info, and often throw in a few small extras as well.

To delay responding to a buyer invites trouble. It's understandable if one is off to an assignment and can't get to their email but there are other ways to make contact and follow through. Or have someone else who can help follow through.

Reputations, online and in-person, are too important in our line of work.

Mr. Birdboy, Birdboy,

This thread is dead on. I am still waiting for a DVX camera bag from April 06. Paid my $56. Still no bag. so buyer beware of Mr. Birdboy.

I appreciate this thread. I did not out the bastard because I felt so embarrased about it. Sellers take care of the transaction as if you are the buyer with a project you need the product for tomorrow. That's my expectation.

signed,
a buyer and seller

Thats right It is Tuesday. haha

nah man, its no joke, I hope mawson really isnt ripping you off. That would be crappy on his part and it taints dvxuser's site as well. Its people like mike (IF he is ripping you off) that makes hard working people like us... mad

Alright peeps I recieved it and it's great. I'm missing one piece though but no biggie. I won't retract anything I've said in this thread as I think it will be useful to someone in the future.. Mike was a good guy, but honestly, I will not do business with him again. Logan L.

P.S. Email me with any questions if you got 'em. Later

Oh and does anyone know where I can get the threaded camera fastener? You know, the one that usually comes on the Bogen camera plates. Thanks

So now that Mr. Logan has his tripod and it is great and so on . Could the moderators consider the outcome and remove this thread. I think that using a mans name as a catchall for people to chime in and complain about others, post their problems and express opinions is unfair and unwarranted!

I second that!

I do not agree, It's important to know the people that you are dealing with, I usually look for posts that can give a better idea about the seller.

After reading this thread the important thing it's that the guy is not a crook.

Okay, I'd like to play devils advocate for a minute. I agree it's important to know who you are buying from, but I don't agree with people being perceived in the wrong light.

Let's go over the facts:

1. Logan agrees to buy Mike's tripod on October 10 (thread says he pm'd Mike at 5:43 pm, Mike anounces that Item is sold after 6 pm - point: probably too late to send out package that day).

2. 11 days later Logan starts this tread. 8 business days since the tripod is anounced as sold.

3. 21 days later (15 business days) Logan anounces that the tripod arrived.

4. Item was shipped from Canada, which automatically extends the time it takes a parcel to arrive, especially something the size of a tripod.

If I send something from Canada to the US, I would hope that if it took over a week to arrive that someone wouldn't start a thread about me. In my eyes, three weeks is very reasonable for the delivery of a large item from Canada to the US. Also, Canada post's tracking system isn't very reliable once a parcel leaves Canada.

Bottom line, the tripod arrived in a fairly reasonable period of time all things considered and Mike shouldn't have his name smeared. Maybe Mike is not a great communicator, or he's busy, but then again, he's a filmmaker not a customer service rep.

I totally understand the anxiety one feels when they send large amounts of money to another country. However, that anxiety can sometimes get the best of us and we can jump to conclusions too quickly.

Again, I agree with the idea of removing this post.

I used to work in shipping - 2-3 weeks for a large item to ship from Canada to the US is not at all out of the ordinary.

I agree that this thread should be deleted.

i ordered a crane from Mr. Dawson a few months back.. was supposed to include a manfrotto quick release plate and counterweights.. in the end i was told that shipping would be too expensive with the weights.. so i had to find my own.. and the manfrotto quick release plate never did show up nor did i ever get a a reply from mike explaining its absence. Personally i wouldnt deal with him again

3 weeks to travel from the neighbouring country is crap. I can order on the friday afternoon from B&H in NY and get it Tuesday Morning in Dorset UK. Thats thosands of miles.

I ordered from Zacuto in Chicago on the Monday and its with me on the Wednesday. 18 days? What did the postman do? Walk it all the way?

I fully undersa=tand the gripe the original poster had and whether the parcel turned up or not, the critisism is self inflicted because he didn't do anyting to get the parcel out for a while.

I sell on Ebay and if there is time that day once an item is paid for, I will take it to the post office to get it out, whether its going local or to Australia.

Okay, I'm going to chime in too. Since we have no feedback mechanism here like there is on eBay, these kinds of threads are useful.

As far as shipping from Canada - there is an easy way to resolve the long ship times - Fedex. I have ordered stuff from Trew Audio in Canada several times, and each time, it arrives within a couple of days (and always with a working tracking number). No doubt it takes longer when using regular mail, and yes, you pay more for Fedex, but if you really need accountability, go this route.

And, I have sold many items on ebay and elsewhere, and communication is always key. If you're selling something and you're not going to be able to ship immediately (based on your payment receipt policy) then you need to list this in your posting.

ahhh! but you see it isnt "all great" and so on..... the shipper/seller didnt include all the right parts for the tripod

and this isnt the first time its happened...

"i ordered a crane from Mr. Dawson a few months back.. was supposed to include a manfrotto quick release plate and counterweights.. in the end i was told that shipping would be too expensive with the weights.. so i had to find my own.. and the manfrotto quick release plate never did show up nor did i ever get a a reply from mike explaining its absence. the DVXmarketplace forum needs threads like this, its not ebay over here and we dont have the luxury of ratings and whatnot..... so these threads are good for potential buyers

bottom line is this (and this is all IMHO of course)....

be square, be honest, do good business.... and your business will grow

Mike Dawson probably isnt a criminal or crook, yes there are more than likely some shipping issues between the US/Canada..... BUT..... he needs to work on how he conducts business

btw, I think the shipping issue factor kinda got blown outta proportion..... it aint THAT hard to ship to/from Canada... I've done it several times
