2 New Apple Books That Rock!

Here's two new MUST HAVE books coming out by Apple and PeachPit Press. They are both really killer books. I've had sneak peaks, and they are worth way more than the cover price. BAMM.com with a membership is about the best prices I can find on them anywhere (including Amazon.com). VERY cool books! The Compressor Quick Reference is going to be a MUST HAVE for all FCP users (it'll be out Dec. 5th). The FX book will be out in TWO WEEKS (after what seems like YEARS in the making), and will just totally ROCK! Both are Apple Pro Training Series, so they're very serious books.

Pre-Release TOC of the FX book can be found here (1.1MB)-

APTS, Compressor Quick Reference Guide
Whether you're an intermediate or advanced Compressor user, this quick-reference guide from professional filmmaker Brian Gary will help you quickly get up to speed, even if you use the software infrequently. It's full of timesaving and alternate workflow tips, tricks, and troubleshooting techniques. The book's compact size makes it easy to fit in your jacket pocket or computer case so that you have it with you when you need it most. Compressor is a component of Final Cut Studio, which has an estimated half a million users.

APTS, Encyclopedia of Visual Effects

This is the ultimate recipe book for visual effects artists working in Apple Shake, Adobe After Effects, and Apple Motion. An impressive lineup of Hollywood and independent effects pros have pulled together this compendium of the coolest and most useful effects from A to Z ("Adding Clouds" to "Z-Depth Effects"). The book includes everything from practical everyday commercial techniques to breakdowns of well-known shots from blockbuster films. Readers learn to create light sabers from the artists who created them for Star Wars Episode 3; learn to freeze time from the wizard who invented the effect for The Matrix; and learn to create matte paintings from the pros who did them for Lord of the Rings. Coverage includes rotoscoping, painting, warping and distortion effects, dramatic lighting, adding lightening and fire, matchmoves, 3D CG integration techniques, advanced blue- and greenscreen techniques, and much more. DVD-ROM included. Foreword by Ron Brinkmann.

Allright, thanks man, I was looking to get books for Motion and Shake, looks like I can kill two birds with one stone now.

Oh no, Grasshopper. This will not replace the Motion and Shake books. This is more of a recipe book, for once you know how to use them. I'd still do the Shake and Motion books first, anyway. You'll get much more out of it.

The visual effects book used to say an Oct. release date :( Now Nov first. Hey BenB. Link to a good price on the Motion and shake books you recommended to JaydeeG?

As for price, you're on your own there! I have a BAMM.com membership and get them about as cheap as I can anywhere. But that's just me.

The visual effects book, well, the printer was late getting them off the press, so, well, s*#t happens. Someone at Apple joked that they got held up waiting for Tom Cruise's autographs in them! LOL!

I actually pre-ordered the FX book back when it had a release date in July, then cancelled when they pushed that back to October, and now November. I hope this time it will actually be released, as it looks like a great book. Damian Allen's Motion book was one of the best training books I have read.

I just checked Peachpit's site for info on the FX book. It has been removed from the coming soon list, and if you do a search for it, you get a page that says the book is not currently for sale (which seems to mean no pre-orders either). I have been told by Peachpit in the past that this usually means there is a problem and the book may not be published.

They haven't cancled my pre-order yet. Which has happened twice already. I'll check and see if I can find out anything about it from Apple.

Ok, GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!

Someone at Apple has just recieved her first box of the book! She's puzzled as to why Peachpit has "not currently for sale" on their web site and will look into it right away.

So, they are printed, they are shipping, it's just a matter of getting the freebies out to Apple and others, then to us regular paying customers. So I'd venture to say, ANY DAY NOW!

I got it $5 cheaper (with shipping) at Book-A-Million.com. I've found with the membership card, BAMM.com is about the cheapest place I can get books. FYI...

Do they charge for the membership card though?

Good price on the book at Amazon.com as well, only about $1 more than the BAMM member price, and well no membership required.

cheers.

Has anyone actually received a copy of the Encyclopedia of Visual Effects book yet? It still shows up as a pre-order on the Amazon and Barnes and Noble web sites.
