I just checked my camera bought from www.bestpricecameras.com, and it has a NC in it, whoch means it is a Japanese camera. I paid $5700. The company advertises in the web site about all products having a Us warranty. So it is fraud. I wonder if Panasonic will honor the camera's warranty. I sent an email to to the comany demanding an exchange ir a full refund. Can somebody from Panasonic take a step ahead about the warranty?

I hope you are able to get this resolved. I do have a question though. Why do you buy the camera for $5,700 there when you could have gotten it cheaper from an authorized dealer (Spec-Comm, etc..)?

You are the first one I have acutally heard who really did get a camera delivered from this company. And you paid more than you would have paid through an authorized dealer. I don't think you have any recourse at all other than to try to persuade the vendor to take it back. I sincerely doubt they will do so. You could always try various NY State Consumer protection agencies but since they have done nothing about the Brooklyn camera scammers, I would not be too helpful. Sorry for all of your troubles...

It probably came with a five-pack of MiniDV tapes, an unusable tripod, and a cheap aluminum case that is too small for the camera. Just my $0.02...

Here's a great shot of the establishment that took your money:

or it could be at this address:

Good luck.

May I ask from Panasonic what happens if the camer needs service within a year?? Also, can somebdoy point to a US dealer with a competitive price?

You can send it to a US service center for repair, but it won't be covered under warranty. You'll have to pay for any repairs.

You do have a warranty, but it's in whatever country your camera was sourced from. So if it's a Japanese camera, you are supposed to be able to ship it to a Panasonic Japan service center and they should cover it under warranty as far as I know.

$5,700 from an unauthorized dealer....wow. that almost happened to me when i bought my hvx200 and the price was closer to $6k. luckily i found the thread here about authorized dealers.

i wonder if they will even let you do an exchange for a camera with a US warranty?

either way good luck man.

They will not let you do an exchange for a camera with a US Warranty since they cannot obtain a camera with a US warranty. They are not Panasonic authorized. I feel very badly for Philip_38 (and Philip, please don't multiple post across the boards). But we live in a world at times of caveat emptor. Philip_38's only salvation here is the Hon. Elliot Spitzer, attorney general of NY, and as I indicated above, there have been no actions taken against these Brooklyn camera scammers.

So, you have a camera with the same functionality as any HVX. You will need to pay for service if it breaks within the warranty period... or send it to Japan for service.

That's the story and I don't think anything can change that. All you can do is enjoy your camera, make lots of money from it or hone your art, and write it up as a potentially expensive lesson.

PS - How LONG is the US Panasonic warranty, and is anything covered (beside the battery mount issue) AFTER that time period for a HVX ? Same period for a P2 card ? Thanks in advance. . .

I setled for an additional extended warranty, which I will check when I get it. I had lost the box, so I could not return it. The lesson is: keep the f.. box!

Lesson also is to research sites like this one for prices, scams, etc before you buy anything over the internet and ask questions. . ..

I purchased the HVX only AFTER being on this site for months, figuring out prices, warranties, etc. This site came up time and time again for this camera on Google . . ..

It really amazes me that people can search for a "best price" but just somehow go retarded when trying to find the reputation of a store. This place is notoriously horrible. ONE quick Google search and you would have known the scam... Reseller ratings gives this place a 0.19... OUT OF 10.00!!!!

ash =o)
