my first short...('and it's SPECTACULAR!")

something that bothered me were the apostrophes in the titling. They were level with the text. Perhaps a choice. I know that it is a silly detail, but it caught my eye and bothered me. (just picky)

But stunning work!!!

Thanx Ted.

I don't understand what are you reffering to... can you be more precise? If it's something that I may have overlooked and it's easy to change I may do that.

But what are you talking about?

WOW!!! That was fantastic. I definitely want to see the finished film, when will it be available?

I have watched it several times, it is so beautiful. I love films set in that time period/location. I have a couple films I would like to one day shoot set in that time period / locale...now I know who to contact when I am ready :)

Fantastic work...looking forward to the finished project, and to seeing what you do next.
Anytime you need advice, Larry, I'd be happy to help.

The short is finished, I entered it to various festivals and hopefully it will be accepted. But that it's not going to be untill next year.

Although I'm thinking of doing a private screening here in LA...

Maybe I should add a page in the website with people leaving their e-mail in case I have a screening... what do you guys think? Do I have enough people in LA to justify renting a place?

It does look very nice. My only question is... was I the only one seeing major interlacing going on? It is wierd, cause you said it was shot 35mm, right?

Just for reference, I was viewing the large qt trailer.

Looks like you have a real film on your hands though. A nice professional look all around, with what looks to be solid acting, etc.

I'd be interested in an LA screening....

also wondering what your budget was.

WOW, I would not dare to say anything more.

But alas,

Ok so you mentioned 4 days of shoot, 7 locations etc. Just curious what was your overall budget. Also what was the ratio of of the "usable film footage" v/s "total film footage". In otherwords, if your film is 10 minutes did you shoot like 40 minutes of footage so the ratio is 1:4?

Just curious.

once again congrats. fantastic job. it totally inspired me to get my butt out there and make something happen !
Look forward to your screeing. If it goes well in LA please do it in east coast also.

Cheers,

thank you Jason.

Yes, there is interlacing because I went DI all the way. I transfered the film to D5, then digitized the downconverted signal from the SD output of the deck in the FCP, choosing Uncompressed 8-bit.

What you see it's a FCP output.

vs - hey hey, good to see you on this side. Nice trailer of course. So, how did
you keep the sand from getting into your gear?

Hi. I was talking about the first two tilte seq. you put up... "...mother's affection..." and "...wouldn't..." the apostropes (') are set low in relationsip to the other letters. Usually, for me at least, the apostrophe sits a bit above the height of the other letters.

It is not a big deal. Just something that jumped out at me. (I do have a 'way too critical eye' that can be obnoxious! sorry! :) )

I love the camera work and post. Can't wait to see more!

Ted

Hey, Vstm10, i was looking the trailer with the speakers off, and i was thinking "the actors looks like they're italians..." After the trailer i have seen the crew/cast page.

Anyway it looks good.

you're right.

althought two of the principal actors have italian names but are from New York.

Looks great.

A few people asked the budget but i didn't see any answers. I was curious too. or maybe you don't want to say. I'm also curious how you raised the money. That's always an issue.

nice work. good luck in the fests!

Well, as everyone keeps saying, GREAT WORK!! really inspiring. As for a screening. I just went to a friend of mine screening at the Beverly Theater. Just west of LaBrea on Beverly. I believe he didn't rent the theater. They let him show his film for free and they didn't even charge people to come in. I think they might have made a little bit of money with food and drinks. But Your piece is far superior to what he was showing. Only his was 1:30hr long. So either you could team up with more short films and do a screening or play it in slow motion. (hahaha. just kidding) If you are interested I can find out how he got this free deal. (By the way, it was a Midnight Screening. I think the theater seats 300 and he got about 150-200 to show up)
If you do a screening, I'd love to go.

Oh yeah, and we are all dying to find out the budget? (how much were you able to extort out of the old man by playing the good wife?)

well -- at least my mum thinks so.

what do YOU think? here's the Trailer

and what about the site? you dig?

Awesome work!

I think I'll be first to comment on the site. Looks like it was made in the 90s. Not that it matters with a trailer like that though.

Well, reason is...I can't really post the budget. But I assure you, it was a tenth of what it was supposed to cost.

But if you are really interested in it, shoot me a PM, I may tell you the ballpark.
Providing than then you will let me kill you. :D

Ok, why can't you post the budget? I'll bet it was high then... I mean, it looks great (the film) but I want to know how much it cost for a 12 min. movie.

Beautiful cinematography. Everything else was superb as well, but that really got my attention. Makes me want to go shoot something in Italy. :)

No, it wasn't high at all.

I cannot post how much it was because it was so ridiculously low that it may compromise some negotiations.
