In 24p, no frames are interlaced.
Standard conversion is usually to speed it up a little bit to 25p, which is then easily converted to 50i.

Dolph2000 is right. Its the same principle used for Film transfers to PAL.
They always play the film back at 25 FPS resulting in it being 1/25th faster overall. The sound would also need to be sped up but without a pitch shift to allow for the extra frame per second.

I'm going to be doing the same process very soon (24p to 25i Digibeta) and I was wondering the follwing thing: people keep telling me that doing the conversion on a computer always results in a loss of quality and that my safest bet is to go to a professional lab to do it.
What do you guys think? Is it worth the expense? Or is there some software that does this in the computer that is just as good?

I was told by Graeme that you have to do the conversion in cinema tools. I tried it . Works great. It only converts 24 to 25 frames but not the size (480 to 576 lines). So you take it in FCP again put it in PAL tilmeline, scale it to full PAL size. That's alway a loss because you have to go from 480 lines to 576 lines. If you do it by lab or yourself it's a loss that's IMO not better done in lab.
When you do HD there's no loss at all because HD is one size 1280-720. There;s no PAL or NTSC. You only change framerate.
