Premiere or Vegas?

really? I just borrowed my friends comp which has Vegas on it, havent used it before so I will have to see how it stacks up to Avid.

It is a sony product, so I am expecting what their electronics are... CRAP, but we'll see

i have always liked vegas, but plan to explore Avid and FCP. i am no expert, by any means, but i will give them a good long haul and give my feedback on what i think. vegas seems to be one of those tools that if you get hooked on it, you love it, if you dont, you hate it.

im just hoping spending time on the mac with FCP wont win me over to that side

wow....why does my dvx make a clicking sound when its off and i turn it over????????????????????????

I use premiere pro 2.0. The only others i've tried are canopus and pinnacle liquid pro, both of which I didnt really like. I dont have anything against vegas, except that its a sony product.

Vegas was Sonic Foundry before it was bought by Sony. Everything that rocks about it was developed before that deal.

dude i was being sarcastic......i guess my quetion marks didnt give it away...hehehe.
Whats sad is every week we get a premire vs vegas, vegas vs avid, avid vs fcp, chicken vs egg, tango vs cash, dvx vs canon... threads, thats sad..lol!!!
All NLES are good, u jus thave to know how to use them, they all have more or less same features jsut a matter of what yorue comfortable with.
Dload the trials, play around, if u like one u buy the full one, done deal. ITs not rocket science. YOu can make the same stuff with (insert your nle) as you could with (insert another nle). Its all in your creativity, the tools are similar.

And dont buy into the hype that (insert nle) is not industry standard etc, sure some companies want you to use (insert nle), so u learn it if u want work wif them..otherwise, keep editing on (insert your nle).

We have a winner. People get way to obsessed with the tools they use. I use what I use because it works for me. Find what works for you and use it.

hey, i was just curious about pros and cons of both, i got lots of useful information out of this thread even if some of the posts are just "i like -insert name of NLE here-" thats just the nature of forums anyway.

Thanks for the discussion i think i'll keep playing with Vegas for now alongside some after effects.

heh...use what youre familiar with and what gets you to do the work faster, thats my philosophy. If u can use windows movie maker..**** use that :D

The end product is where its at, not necesarily the road....know what im sayin!!!!

Avid is still the best. haha soooo effecient, and I would say FCP comes in second, but for some reason the propietary software that works w. the propietary hard ware, likes to crash constantly (dont say it doesnt b/c ive tried it on a half dozen macs, all diff kinds in all diff places, even the new Mac Pros)

Hmmm...mine has only been running on two different machines. And I haven't tried it in kiff places but I have not had problems with my software crashing...:)

OH GOD!! sorry about the mispell. Tonight for example, I was editing a video, and exported the .MOV file, and right after I exported, FCP disappeared. It didnt quit, didnt save, didnt minimize, it just disappeared. Now, It did autosave a few times and I had saved it right before I exported. But for some reason, EVERY SINGLE FILE was corrupted. luckily I accidentally saved the sequence I was working with and that worked, but thats a hassle I do not need to deal w/ while working w/ 100's of hours of footage.

Avid it is

Well, you've obviously got a problem...one which I've never encountered. I can understand why you wouldn't want to use the software. In fact, I'm shocked that you continue to use it. You may want to discuss your problem with BenB.

Well, its the program that we HAVE to using for Fundamentals of Editing class. Then theres Intermediate Editing which is Premiere Pro, then Advanced Editing, which is Avid. Ive been using all 3 for some time now, but for some reason, FCP at school and anywhere I use it just likes to crash. It happens with Quark 7.0 at work.
