hey all, so i rented a firestore a week ago and when i was done i copied over the firestore data to an external hard drive. now i can't for the life of me figure out how to import that footage into final cut. when i locate the firestore folder with the p2 importer it says it has invalid directory structure. if i just try and drag an drop the mxf files it says it can't find the correct mxf conversion documents. any ideas? thanks.

Did you use the ORGANIZE function on the FS-100 before copying the contents to your computer?

hmmm, is the firestore structure supposed to look just like a p2's. cuz what i copied doesn't. there is a bunch of empty numbered folders, then one with a weird number with all the mxf files. then a log folder with .xml files, a file called fwxdc.dat, and the lastclip.txt file. in the folder with all the mxf files they aren't organized in any way. i'm started to get scared i didn't get the audio recorded...

Seems you did not use the Organize P2 function. You must do this to organize the MXF files properly. You will still see all of the empty folders; what is pertinent is the lastclip.txt and the Contents folder-- just like on a P2 card. That should then import properly into FCP with the Import P2... command.

It's an FS-100 proprietary function. Unless you can get your hands on that FS again, copy it back, run P2 Organize, it's useless data.

Ok, I shot some stuff.
Connected the FS-100 to my computer, made a folder called FS Test, copied all the contents of the FS-100 to it.
Then I unmounted the FS, ran the P2 Organize function, connected back to my Mac just to verify the footage ingested into FCP.
Then I unmounted the FS, formatted the disk to erase it.
Mounted it back to my Mac, put everything on the FS into the Trash, emptied the trash.
Copied the contents I had originally copied from the FS into the FS Test folder BACK onto the FS.
Unmounted the FS, ran P2 Organize.
Mounted to my Mac, launched FCP, my footage was there.

Point is, you can copy it back to the FS, run P2 Organize, and get your footage back. I'm just hoping you copied EVERYTHING from the FS-100 originally. You did copy the entire FS-100 hard drive, right?

And the user manual is a PDF on Focus Enhancements web site, just like all user manuals are these days. Just for future reference.

Like Ben asked, if you copied the ENTIRE contents, then you may be able to organize your files manually. See page 67 in the PDF above. It shows you the structure:

CONTENTS
__VIDEO,
____MXF video
AUDIO,
__MXF audio
CLIP,
__MXF XML files

There's at lease one other file called LASTCLIP.TXT that's has to be in there somewhere. Dig around the forums. Good luck!
