I wondering if someone could tell me what comes out. Is it the DV standard coming out at 5 to 1 compression? In otherwords if I connect my 100b to a switcher via YC what am I getting? Is it right off the block or is it crunched? My clent says:

We're concerned with the MiniDV standard.
Thanks
sorry wrong technical

If you're playing back from tape, it'll be DV, converted to analog.

If you're playing back from the card, it'll be whatever format you recorded, converted to analog.

If you're looking at the live camera feed without it having been recorded, that's uncompressed HD on the HD component outputs (or uncompressed SD if you're in 480 mode).

Sorry for the cross post Barry. It was meant to bein the DVX group. But jsutin case , I want to use 3 DVX100's on either a Tricaster or traditional switcher and willprobably feed Y/C from the camera directly (I was considering rolling tape in the cams as "slaves" for iso. ) My client, when made aware of this new set up (did it with beta-cams last time) commented that they were not in favour of the mini dv standard. I assumed that if I took a composite or Y/C output from the camera it would be coming out at 640x480 off the "block" rather than through the compression it would go through as it headed to the tape.
I should also add that the switched master will probably be recorded on Digi Beta, although the client has said DVC Pro 50 is an acceptible codec for them. thanks again!
