Can a 4:3 external monitor mirror the viewfinder?

Hello everyone,

I'm currently using the HVX on a jib, connected to an external vari-zoom monitor which is 4:3. When I plug the RCA cable into the camera's video out, the image stretches to fill the full 4:3 frame, rather than displaying letterboxed as it does on the camera's LCD screen.

Is there a setting which will allow me to display the camera output as a letterboxed 4:3 image, just like on the LCD? Or would it be better to swap this 4:3 monitor for a 16:9 model?

Thanks,

Alon

Hi:

You need a 16x9 capable monitor. The HVX-200 does not have any options to convert downconverted output to letterbox or center cut. This is one option that the Sony Z1 has that I really liked and miss a lot. Perhaps on the HVX-200A?
