METRO--a film by Ralph Oshiro [Rezfactor]

The dvx screen grabs look 100times better than the Sony DSR450. Why did you switch?
I gotta admit, my little DVX does make some nice looking pictures. I just wish the DVX was native-16:9 so that I could use it for more B-roll stuff to cut in with my widescreen DSR450 footage. I mainly switched cameras because I found my DVX (and all 1/3" CCD cameras in general) to have too much chroma noise for my tastes. I'll try and set up a side-by-side comparison soon, here in this thread, so you can see the differences between the two, with both cameras lensing an identical scene, so we can compare apples-to-apples.

Really looking forward to seeing some more :) Those are some appetizing first shots! Too bad Alejandra won't be in this one. I liked her 'natural' look and would have liked to see her have some lines, but hey with an ad like you placed surely some other goddess will arise. I hope the extended remade version of Airport will get made aswell still.
The banner is looking good, without the badge is better in my own humble opinion.

I think the new banner looks nice...

My only comment would be that the flashing red light sort of takes away from the movie title. Maybe moving it off the same plane as "Metro" would do the trick.

Looking forward to more updates, keep up the good work!

Thanks to both of you for checking out my thread! Yeah, I go back and forth on the whole badge-light thing. I like the plain banner a lot, too. For some reason, I keep wanting to add the badge back in--I think makes it look more "commercial" maybe? I dunno.

Anyway, Glideshot, I just checked out your GS4 Ultra Compact Dolly, and that seems to be just what I'm looking for! But what I've been really looking for someone to design is a "captive" dolly system. Think of this . . . Take something about the form factor of the GS4, only make "captive" wheels attached to a, say, 4-foot rail. Something that you could just throw in your car, whip out of your trunk, and INSTANTLY be able to pull off a 4-foot tracking shot. Maybe have an extension to make it lengthen to perhaps 6-feet.

The reason for this design, is that I tend to "steal" all of my shots. And often, even just a track shot of only couple feet can turn a dull, sticks-only shot into something really "cinematic." I often steal these shots from either dangerous locations, or locations that I'm simply REALLY not allowed to be shooting in. So a quick set-up becomes a necessity. Those establishing shots on the first page of this thread? We were nervously looking over our shoulders the whole time. Using a $15,000 camera on a $5,000 tripod in gang-infested neighborhoods just makes you wanna shoot REAL fast! A 4-foot dolly shot would've made the two latter shots REALLY sweet!

I think you'd be looking at something like a linear slide, which would have a camera mount block permanently attached. These things are pretty expensive.

In order to make the GS4 wheels "Static", some type of bracket would need to be added to the dolly top that kind of curves underneath (thus "hugging" the track), which would prevent the dolly from lifting off the track. With this method, the dolly tracks would not be allowed to lay flat on the ground, as the bracket would be under them.

You could always leave a tripod head attached to the GS4, with a quick release on your camera. This way you could "jump out", throw your dolly tracks anywhere, slide the camera onto the head, get the shot and be gone! I'll email you a photo of this if you want.

Feel free to email me at: info@glideshot.com if you have something you'd like us to try.

What exactly is the plot outline for the piece? Also, are you filming the piece in cooperation with the LAPD?

Hey Rez, I like the update you made on the banner! Much better. I especially like the TITLE "on" the badge. The red flashing lights are a keeper... I'm just curious about a different placement. The seem to detract for the actual title. But, all in all, I like it!!!

HA! I hadn't seen this one!!!! Okay! Now we're talking!!!

As for your "real" banner... I love the "angled slash" of black. Very nice.

I know I commented on the lights... that was my first reaction. But I do like it in the image. Out of curiousity.... have you tried it inline with the title just BEFORE the lettering? I am trying to envision it like that. Might be too much..

just so toughts. Great work!

Thanks for visiting my thread! Perhaps this thread is a bit premature since I don't yet have a script. I have some vague ideas. But that's how RUNWAY (my HorrorFest entry) started, and by the time I had submitted (actually about a week after I had submitted), I figured out a complete story. Shooting helped me create a story, and if I chose to re-shoot the rest of the story I had later discovered, I think it would've been a pretty neat short. But my real passion, the gritty crime drama genre, got the best of me, and I just began dreaming of a whole new project in this genre instead.

No cooperation whatsoever with the LAPD. Went to Parker Center (LAPD headquarters), and talked to them until I was blue in the face, and got basically nowhere. But I wasn't sure how I was gonna make an airplane in my living room either, and if you watched RUNWAY, many believed I pulled it off fairly credibly. So, having real LAPD police cars in my next short film are, to me, the holy grail of filmmaking, and I'll be damned if I can't wrangle a few black and white cruisers SOMEHOW for this upcoming short film of mine.

Again, thanks for your kind comments, Ted. I'm afraid may really have to change the title, since that crummy Eddie Murphy movie played on HBO last night, also titled, "METRO" (and boy did they have a lot of police cars!). Plus, there are like 87 million other independent films listed in IMDB with the same title. Might still keep it--unless I can think of something better.

Thanks for the suggestions! Well, among two of my most favorite films set in Los Angeles, To Live and Die in L.A., and, City of Industry, both have titles that I really like. Not to mention two of the most iconic, L.A.-centric homages to Southland locations, both from Michael Mann, both single-word titles, Heat, and, Collateral). And To Live and Die in L.A. "owns" the "L.A." moniker, IMO. I also have to scale the title down to what I can afford to shoot, if that makes any sense. Also, there is another tie-in to the word "metro" I had planned which makes me want to keep hanging on to it. Still don't like that that title is used for another film in the same genre (the sucky Eddie Murphy film).
