Hvx + M2 - Kubichek - Axe + Man + Band

You gotta work on the vignetting and focus.. it's a bit distracting.. Get a first AC.. I like the song, you had the right idea, but you gotta get your gear to work before you go shoot dude.. Unless its the compression, 40% of this was out of focus, and another 70% was vignetting? If you did in because you liked it, well, GREAT JOB for you, but MTV will never air it..

Looks cool! Good luck with taking it far. Hope to see it on MTV!
The behind the scenes video was fun to watch.

Don't be so condescending! What the hell do you know. MTV have aired worst stuff than this and this is good.

Good job Beno. Can I ask where you shot this vid?

I beg to differ the band are fantastic and say mtv 2 would definatly air it no problemo.
I agree that the vignettes are to heavy in places but can be changed pretty easy, focus was fine not an issue from the what i could tell, Loved the feel of the video on the hole, pace was good.
Let me know if you need a plugger I know a few good ones who would snap it up for the uk market.
Not sure why you shot in london ?

well done

thanks for all comments..

The vignetting is something we added on with magic bullet, maybe it's over the top? It's not too late to change it!! :) but the band liked it so that's the main thing.

As for focus I tried to go for the focus which wasn't always the most obvious, so a lot of the time what ever is right at the front of the shot is blured and something in the background which is partially obscured is sharp. It's not quite as effective on the .mov because it's so small but the full res one looks great (in my opinion anyway)

We shot in London even though the band are from Newcastle and we're from Manchester because we know a guy who works at shepperton studios down there and we managed to get a stage and a lot of lighting gear for free. The director built the walls with me the day before, like you see in the behind the scenes stuff, so we could have done it anywhere, but I'm defiantely glad we went to shepperton because every time we needed another light or clamp we could just walk over to the lighting store and grab anything we needed!! :)

The band have a PR company who's going to shop it to the TV channels and apparently Zane Lowe is interested in playing the video, but knowing my luck he'll see this thread and say "only if you'd hired that AC" haha

My rule with vignettes is never to repeat the same vignette on consecqutive shots that contain different scenes, vary the size and shape so they don't look too fake. Also never cover people on the edge of frame with vignettes only use them to add depth to empty backgrounds etc.
Make any sense ?
It's not going to have a massive difference to the final piece but it will make it look better trust me. Try it out and ask the band what they think afterwards they might not even notice but Zane might lol.

Looked great, good lighting, sound, & camerawork. The band was really good, I say yes to MTV2, not MTV, they're to busy to play music videos.

Condescending? Ok, I'm sorry, I think people that post here lately are confused.. Should I have just said "wow, AMAZING JOB"? Or should I state my opinion? Maybe I should have cleared it with you first? I don't get this crap anymore..

Although, I do get a PROFESSIONAL response from the person I intended it to go to.. It's called constructive criticism.. He understood it.. Maybe you should learn from that..

As for the MTV comment.. I worked for MTV for 4 years as a camera assistant in the NYC studio, if we wanted to, we could take home videos that people sent in and grade the song/video for possible air.. one thing they would be critical on is FOCUS.. They didn't want things that would distract from the band, or look amateurish.. The vingetting is ok.. it's style.. I didn't like the abundance of it.. and well, that's what we call an opinion..

You should keep your comments to the topic.. and not other peoples.. unless the're good..

Beno, you did a great job.. I hope you understand what my comments we're intended to for.. I'm never the one to attact.. Just voice an opinion..

Opions are great until there start to sound like rules.

The Video looks great. My opinion is I like the focus style and vingetting.

And I just stated my opinion.

Professional job all round. Great energy and nice cutting. I too was distracted by the focussing. With the quick cuts my eyes were only catching what was filling the frame, and if that was out of focus it was distracting.

fwiw, people become relunctant to post if they get flamed for being critical. It's worse if the criticism is well intented.

Hmm i was a big fan of the lighting in the white rooms and stuff but i didnt like the blue band lighting. That said its a good piece of work nonetheless!

dude MTV/MTV2 have aired WAYYYY worse crud than this....

just tune in to headbangers ball and see for yourself

anyways, I think you did a good job man.... the excessive vignetting was..... you know....

but other than that I liked it, really liked the song too....it wasnt the best video I've ever seen but it was good none-the-less

performance based vids are kinda hard to f**k up.....unless youre just a total hack

cheers everyone... I just posted another version with slight reduction on the old vignetting (SAME LINK). Will let you know what MTV2 say when it's gone out :)
