Which hard drive to edit hvx footage?

Hey I have a JVC hd100u camera, but I don't like the way how I have to use a third party program to transfer footages. The footage also looks horrible and it has a lot of chromatic abberation so I'm thinking of selling it and buying an HVX. I have a macbook pro 17 inch, so it has a firewire 800 port. I know that I'll need a fast hard drive in order to edit. I need help on which hard drive I'll have to buy. I'm low on money and I need to find a cheap fast hard drive that would work. One of my considerations is this:

Would I have an issue editing with that hard drive? And would I need more storage space?

How big is a 1 hr uncompressed footage?

My macbook pro has:
2gb of memory (ram)
core duo 2.16ghz
firewire800 port
TI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 256MB GDDR3 memory

Would I also need more ram and processor speed?

One hour of DVCProHD 720/24p footage occupies 21.43 Gbytes.

I've captured and edited the same footage on a MacBook with 2 Gbs of RAM and an internal drive and a USB2 bus powered drive.

Remember that DVCProHD IS compressed.

That MBP won't hold any more RAM

If you want a decent external hard drive, go mainstream.

Among the best made

I would buy an ExpressCard/34 eSATA card, or an ExpressCard/34 FW400 card and hook the cam to that.

Or hook an eSATA external to the ExpressCard/34:

I thought I heard from somewhere that I'll need at least 250 mbps transfer speed.
would the G drive work with editing at 1080/24p?

DVCProHD 720p60/24 fps = 5.76 MBytes per second.

DVCProHD 1080i/24 fps = 11.52 MBytes per second.

Uncompressed 1920x1080 10-bit RGB = 199.07 MBytes per second.

Don't confuse uncompressed HD with DVCProHD.

Also, your message states mbps. That means megabits per second, not megabytes.

Which are you referring to?

I'm referring mbytes per second.
In order for me to transfer uncompressed HD directly to the hard drive, would I need a faster HD?

Can you also see a difference between uncompressed HD and DVCPRO HD?
Is it worth editing with uncompressed HD?

Which cam are you using to capture uncompressed HD?

Also, have you searched the internet for comparisons between DVCProHD and uncompressed HD?

These are basic questions, and this forum relates to hadware and accessories for the HVX200.
