Adobe has aquired Serious Magic according to a Press release I received 5 minutes ago

This could be a good thing for us PremPro HD (HVX) Users. We need better HD support in our NLE and this may provided it.

Hope they do not lose their "serious magic culture" in the transaction.

Is this another "serious" tread or just another joke... could we take you seriously?

after I did see this:

Can someone tell me why the ferrite core needs to be attached to a firewire cable when the HVX 200 is hooked up to the PC?

It censors your footage and sends a copy to the CIA via Ferrit Technologies yet unavailable to the masses

... mmmm...

Oh snap!

They bought out Pixmantec, the maker of my favorite RAW image developer, and then immediately killed off the product, leaving the digital photography community forever waiting for enhancements and bug fixes that will never come.

What a sad development.

Isn't this the dream of most small software companies?

Get enough customer base to attract the interest of a software giant and ride the M&A wave all the way to the Bahamas!

For their sake, I hope the currency used to make the deal had some real cash involved and not just a bunch of stock.

I almost joined the Photoshop team many years ago. Interviewed, got an offer, was all set to move, and then got a better offer from another well-known software company with offices in Santa Monica.

I've been an Adobe user for years. Serious Magic has really stood out as a responsive, service oriented company. Sorry, but Adobe will just screw that up (They'll want to charge $150 or more per "update" to fix bugs).

I wish I had some Serious Magic stock.

I'm happy for them and for those of us who use Adobe products. We're totally going to benefit from the SM technologies as they are incorporated into Premiere and After Effects.

Congrats to all. Sounds like the champagne corks will be popping in Folsom today!

Good news for us DVRack users is probably the end of Softwrap! Adobe certainly don't protect their software they way Serious Magic do.

Because DVRack relies upon DirectX, no way really of porting the software as is to Mac-- and with the ability to run under Boot Camp, not much incentive to develop a Mac-specific app. I had reviewed DVRack for Videography and enjoyed working with the Serious Magic folks. They worked hard and this is a great reward for them.

Congats SM guys. Adobe will sit in nicely with the move I will make to PPro with CineForm ProspectHD.

I have to agree, maybe Softwrap can go, phew...

Most interesting. I hope this portends great things for Serious Magic, as they certainly deserve it. And maybe with some integration this will be the missing link between Premiere Pro and HVX compatibility!

Thanks everyone for the kind words and the support over the years. I think this will mean great things for our technology. Products like ULTRA and DV Rack will continue to develop and grow under Adobe.

For the time being, Serious Magic employees will not be posting outside of the Serious Magic forums, until we get word from Adobe. We will still be reading the forums here and elsewhere, however. If you have technical issues or questions, please e-mail us at dvracksupport@seriousmagic.com, or you can contact us on the Serious Magic forums.
