Fun Autumn Footage

looks pretty good i thought the contrast was on the harsh side though. I use magic bullet alot do you like the natress stuff more?....it seems a bit cheesier to me i donno, I havent gotten to try it out yet.

btw, I dont know why you said you could or would want to use photoshop to do transitions like that....theres key frames for a reason even with that that natress stuff thats super easy. Key frame saturation, and key frame your highlights in color corrector make it go b/w then pop the highlights thats all that stuff is.

Good music btw. Sufjan Stevens is rad.

thanks guys! i guess we prefer a more contrasty picture. to each his own.

after using both magic bullet and gfilm, i can say that i like magic bullet better for color correction. the only time i really use gfilm is to make a quicker render for test.

the reason i use photoshop on some of the film flashes is to mimick the orange burn that is sometimes seen on over exposed portions of 16mm daylight film. in the event that i use photoshop, i do typically use keyframing. this technique, however, is not demonstrated in this piece.

how would you keyframe in photoshop im not sure I understand....using photoshop would mean exporting the frames....do you mean after fx?....btw if you want film burns (this happens on the leader and tail end of film as it gets exposed to daylight) i highly suggest either getting "film clutter" from art beats or get a roll of super 8 an old camera and go to town....take out the cartridge all the time shoot at the sun etc and youll get some good stuff to overlay....fake film burns arnt even worth the effort.

i looked into the art beats stuff, and found it to be far too expensive. i make the frames i want in photoshop, then edit their paths, size, and distortion using keyframing in final cut pro.

i understand how film burns work, but have to disagree with you about fake film burns not being worth the time.

- I disagree , Jake .

- - reading comments like 'that ain't worth the effort' !! - well , I thank you for the effort Korimickster - I really enjoyed this "fun footage" with all it's 'fake' burns -
- This 'short' that you've 'thrown together' , just for fun , gave me more enjoyable watching than much of the stuff on this site that some spend months shooting and editing ! -
- Keep up the good work , and don't be put off by those who envy your talent - there'll be plenty who jump into your path , poking their opinions up yer nostrils !

- What was the music please ? !!!

Adam E - have you tried the Norm2 matrix - I use it if I going to jack the chroma up ; I really like the range of colours it gives.

Well done Guys ; you've got another fan here !

Sufjan Stevens - "The Tallest Man, the Broadest Shoulders"

Sufjan is seriously an amazing musician. He is making an entire album about every state in the US. He is from Michigan (where I live) and that was his first of 50 (Greetings From Michigan, the Great Lakes State!). Illinois (Come On! Feel the Illinoise!) came 2nd and blew the Michigan album out of the water. He also has 2 previous studio albums, a "noise" album, and 3 Christmas albums. He's nuts.

Check him out!

And thank you to everyone who checked it out. Some of my favorite footage comes from playing around with my favorite toy... it's good to just get out of the house sometimes.

Oh ! - I saw the Sufjan comment and checked one track - didn't think it could be the same guy ! ( lowercase "wow" ) - I'll go seek his albums out.

Thanks Corey

Whoops! I put the wrong track title.

The song in the video is "Come On, Feel the Illinoise!" off of the record of the same name. But be sure to check out "The Tallest Man..."

First grab a long enough shot to cover the entire frame and make sure nothing is in the shot.

Next, find a clip with the subject in that area. Crop them so only they are in a little "box" and make sure they don't go outside of that area, or they will lose a limb.

Do this for every clip and make sure lighting is even. I can post pictures if you need. I am using Final Cut Studio, but I would assume Express can do this.
