Just a basic computer question here. Can you use a cheap PC laptop to download footage from P2 cards to a hard drive then plug that hard drive into a MAC with no compatibility problems?

Yes indeed if you are running the latest mac osx 10.4.8 your mac will read the pc formatted drive no problem you just wont be able to delete or add files to the drive, but you can copy from it !
