lol. IMDB says he was only in 6 episodes...but such a great character, id swear he was in alot of them.

Here is how I scraped up the funds for an HVX......Sell things you have that are worth something...Extra car, backup computer, furniture, T.V.s...firstborn children..... Seriously, I sold my two Sony Vx2100s and am selling my DVX100b Monday, to afford the HVX. It will be worth it.

I'm halfway through that process.:crybaby: Well... just the car really but, I love that
damn thing.

Maybe it's just me. Or maybe it's the editors. But all the HVX footage I've seen looks....bluish. Is it supposed to look bluish? Makes no sense.

Anyway, nothing I've seen makes me want to run out and get one. (And, yes, I could. I've got my checkbook sitting right here.)

GenJerDan, you might want to calibrate your monitor if that's what you are truly seeing. Given the range of gamma settings available on the HVX as well as its ability to provide a calibrated and accurate output as shown in a number of tests using a scope, its pretty ludicrous to paint such a broad brush ('bluish') to the camera.

Moreover, given the amount of color correction added in post in these entries, even if you accurately did detect a 'bluish' quality to the HVX footage, pointing at the camera would be pretty misplaced as the source anyway.

Additionally, it would be pretty foolish to make a judgment about the camera given the TEENSY size and HEAVY compression required to make these web movies. At these sizes and with these compression levels you aren't going to meaningfully see ANY difference between anything shot with a DVX vs an HVX. Look at the quality of cinematography in WELCOME. Unless you are told, you will not be able to meaningfully determine whether that was HVX or DVX footage. I'd be willing to bet serious money that a blind assessment of all entries would reveal that NOBODY could tell which productions were HVX vs DVX.

The HVX won't make anyone a better filmmaker and it certainly isn't going to give anyone an advantage over DVX shooters when the output is tiny compressed QuickTime web movies. I would venture to say that you'd really be making a mistake if you used these entries to judge whether you wold benefit from having an HVX.

Now, if you are in need of HD resolution, variable frame rates and improved color space you should consider the HVX.

You'd be better served looking at the full-frame images in this thread if you really want to consider the merits of the HVX: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/forumdisplay.php?f=57

when I decided to buy my camera the one thing I kept in mind was that spielberg could make an oscar winner out of a hi-8....so if you dont know what to do with that piece of hardware you have in your hands then it dont matter if its called dvx, hvx, xl2 or r2d2...

It is. Or it is as much as a computer monitor can be. Likewise the other monitors I've viewed them on. (LCD and CRT) Nothing else looks bluish. Not SD, not DVDs I pop in.

I'm not going by the recent fest. Stuff in the HVX forum looks that way to me, too.

It might just be HD in general. I haven't seen any that I like the look of.
