Parts from Japan for repair, how long?

The lens assembly needs to be replaced and is the only part that is coming from Japan, the repair place is Fox Valley Video and they have no real time estimate because they just dont know. I just wondered if anyone had any experience with parts from Japan and how long it "might" take.

thanks, roger

I suspect that after placing the order they SHOULD get the part within about two weeks assuming the part is in stock. Usually Japanese companies are very fast on the turn around. But also depends on the shipping method used.

I'm going to be uncomfortably honest.

What is going to happen is they will give you a date the part is expected to arrive. That arrival date will be pushed back and back and back.

Bottom line, expect your part to arrive in about two months. I am not being mean nor being unfair. Panasonic is famous for not being able to deliver parts in a reasonable amount of time.

I had to have my LCD replaced. It had an electronic problem inside the unit. It had not been dropped or externally damaged. The only way to "repair" it was to replace the entire unit. As I mentioned above, we put in the order for the part and Panasonic gave us a date the part would arrive. It didn't, and didn't, and didn't. All of my friends who deal with Panasonic and have had to order parts from them have had the exact same experience. It took me just over two months to get that LCD and that included me paying to have the part FedExed "next day delivery".

You will get the part...eventually. But don't expect the date you've been told to be honored by Panasonic.

Panasonic runs the official slow-boat-from-China...or Japan in this case. Don't hold your breath waiting for that part to arrive.

Hate to disagree with you, but as I said if its in stock in Japan thats not where your hold up will be. I have ordered things from Panasonic from within Japan and had it 2 days later.

I note you say you are an "Australian in Tokyo"

It may be you get the parts so quickly because you don't have to deal with the "boat factor":)

Those of us based on this side of the world don't get to enjoy being as close to the source as you do.

Thats very true I didnt consider "shipping" actually being on a ship. That sucks.

shipping

shipping

It takes two days from Japan to anywhere in the USA. What part are you looking for? We have offices in both Japan and USA.

PASC stocks nearly every part in the US, this typically does include a lens assembly.

There are two versions of the assembly for a 100A, one has a part number of VXW0635, the other VXW0635/S. Both have a suggested resale price of $1041.10 and can be obtained from PASC.

It is being shipped, took about 1 month for shipping and repairs, not bad, got it in under the deadline, 1 day before the warranty expired.

Just curious...are you saying you got the part and your camera is repaired or are you saying the part, according to Panasonic, is on the way to you and it has yet to arrive?

I am saying the box just arrived with the repaired camera. 1 month does seem like a pretty fast time to have something shipped from Japan, maybe they got it from Panasonic USA, who knows, my personal guess was that it was going to take 2 months but I am glad its here! Anybody want to trade for a "b" plus moola? ;+)

"FYI warranty is from the date the problem is officially reported."

what are you talking about? It came with a 1 year warranty. 1 Year means one full year, yes?

That's great news.

Thanks for the info.

Fixing or replacing the Flexible Cable that attach to the Focus Ring of the DVX100A

Hey to any of you who has some technical knowledge of how I could fix a broken flexible cable that attaches to the focus ring of the DVX100A.
I was cleaning the lenses and disconnect the flexible cables from the Focus Ring, after I was finish to clean the lenses, I try to connect the Flexible Cable back to the Focus Ring, but in the process a small part of the Flexible Cable broken:embarasse, making the cable slightly shorter, is there a way that I can fix this without spending a fortune?
Can I replace the Flexible Cable myself?
Can the Flexible Cable be molten or clue with additional part that would extent the flexible cable?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Mario
