that sux man..next time just say the camera was always off when u pluged in the firewire....

That will not help ,,because Panasonic said that IE1394 is not coverd by the Warranty anymore, they where tired of all blown IE1394 ports!
The repair man was reading a note that he got from panasonic about the warranty !
and that sux !!

but the repair man also said that 4Pins IE1394 was very fragile and will break easily
the plastic is very weak ! he has lost count about how many he has replaced, this was of course much cheaper too replace ;)

Ok guys ,,now i know better !!

The warranty does not cover blown up IE1394 ports :crybaby:

so it will cost me about 679$ or 541e to repair it ,,,holy crap !!

Guys be very careful with it ,,iknow i will !!

That's a ***** man. Most of us learned our lesson in the DVX days. Thankfully in most cases we were just using the firewire to upload to a PC and it just re-inforced how important it was to get another small camera as a deck. I have a friend who has had his firewire fried two years ago but hasn't bothered getting it fixed. Having it screw up on the HVX200 is a much bigger deal since it means being unable to output to a Firestore or laptop. I assumed that everyone had learned not to plug or unplug the firewire in when the camera is on by now but I guess not. Perhaps we should make a sticky topic on this.

Good idea, but we will need to change the title to make the warning stand out, though it's scary already.

How do any of you know the port is blown? You don't until you take it to the service center and they tell you is't fried.

In the manual it says that 1394 operation not guaranteed? I get the message 1394 DEVICE DISSCONECT beats me what the deal is? I have read that 1394 is mostly for Macs! Only way to find out is to plug the camera into a mac.

Since I have a powerbook, I hardly use the firewire port of my HVX. I dump the cards in the pcmia slot to my external firewire 800 drives. It takes less than 4 minutes for a 8gb p2 card dump.

I've hardly used tape on my HVX. When I need to shoot DV, I go p2 too. With two 8gb cards, I get about 80 minutes of dv recording. I also have the P2 store, wich guarantees me non stop recording. If I could get this recording time for DVCPRO HD, I would never go back to tape- only for archiving.

When it happened to my cheapo Panasonic camcorder and a friend's DVX100, I'd the computer would briefly recognize it, then lose the connection, then get it back, then lose it, ect. It made it impossible to capture. 1394 is not garunteed for P2 use on PCs but I think that it shouldn't be any different than the DVX when using the camera as a deck (which you should never do by the way).
