720p and 480i together in a project.

Can I use 720p footage (that is downrezzed in Cineform to SD) in a 480i (DVCPRO50) project. I'd really like to use some 720p stuff to take advantage of shooting at 60p for some slow mo stuff, but since the DVCPRO50 project is interlaced I didn't know if this would be an issue.

thanks.

Well, sure you can do it, and it shouldn't cause an issue. I mean, you could always just downconvert from the P2 card to the tape drive and import that footage right into your interlaced project and it'd work.

Downconverting in post would be better though as you'd get better color sampling than you would from downconverting in-camera to DV.

Yes, but you wanted slow-mo, right? So it's going to look different than interlaced no matter what you do.

Just try it. Do a downconvert of some 720/24pN@60fps footage and play it back in-camera and see if that's the look you're going for.

What NLE are you using. The 480 project doesn't have to be interlaced. You can do frame extractions so it's on a 480 24p timeline and then put the 720p stuff on the same timeline.

my project is a 480i (60i) DVCPRO50 project. this is a wakeboard (action sports) video, so 24p doesn't apply for this project. I am mainly concerned with having a few 720p (60p) clips in the project so I can have better looking slow mo, since I'm using Prem Pro, whose time remapping engine sucks! I just didn't know if it would throw Premiere off adding progressive clips into an interlaced project. If it doesn't matter, why do you have to select frame rate and such when starting a project? Just curious. If it works, great, that's all I want :) Thanks for your help.
