Shooting Outdoors issue

Hey guys I bought a used DVX100a and wanted to know a few things when shooting outdoors. I have taken the camera outside to shoot some test footage but I had to to put my f-stop at 15. Im in Los Angeles and it was a sunny day but I think shooting at 15 is pretty abnormal. What do you guys shoot at when outside on a sunny day? Any help would be great.

Try adding some ND as required. Shooting more open (larger aperture, smaller F-Stop) will give you a shallower DOF and in most cases, will yield sharper images as no lens is at its best nearly closed.

That filter sucks (1/64), it darkens everything tooooo much.
The first is ok, the second, i dont even understand why its there!

It depends on where you are shooting. Here in Central America I can't live without the darker ND while shooting in broad daylight.

Of course i was just pissed at some footage that demanded 1/64 and used it. It was such a bright day! the view finder was useless not to mention the LCD..
so everything turned out black! :crybaby:

Had to re-shoot another day, that is why im always very careful with 1/64

You need to use the ND filter and iris control hand-in-hand to get the right exposure. You can't just flip it in and run. You always have to adjust the iris to get correct exposure.

ND in conjunction with proper use of Zebras will weild you good results. It's all about proper exposure.
