Reduction In Costs Of 4gb P2 Cards (uk)

Not in stock I believe when I contacted them last.

And at the moment I don't trust ordering something ex-stock as it may not appear when say it will.

P2 cards are best bought in the states. The Dollar is ridiculous low - lower than the importtaxes right now. And with P2 nothing can go wrong during shipping etc.

i ordered my hvx from an ebay shop called Digital 4 U-he ships pal cams from hong kong,i payed 3300 for next day delivery to london, includes 1 yr warranty thru seller and 2 yr extended international warranty

I had thought about getting them shipped from the states, but its the thought of being hit by customs tax, then V.A.T and then the post office charging me for paying the customs and vat when it entered the country. ££££s

Expect to hear concrete price information either at the end of this week or at the beginning of next. If you need cards urgently you can email Panasonic UK directly at http://www.panasonic.co.uk/customer-Support/contact-email.asp and state your case. There's a bit of two-ing and fro-ing that will happen, but its better than waiting. The team on that end are quite helpful !!!

I must clarify what's being frustrating is going to http://www.panasonic-broadcast.com which is the European section and never hearing from then. I decided to see if Panasonic UK [who aren't listed as covering broadcast] and see if they could help. They did and I might be getting cards soon. I still don't know how much they will be as yet, but they are going to be cheaper.

Its confusing as Panasonic UK is more geared on its website to consumer stuff, even though they do cover all the products. The fact we are driven off to a site thats run in germany for broadcast professionals is counter-productive, when I can find out info in the UK.

Thanks

When prices are now around £3600 in the UK for the HVX from official suppliers, why risk having to pay import tax on something shipped from abroad or thats not an official UK product covered in the good old Rule Britania?

MajorMorgan

there is no tax to pay,the supplier already has stock in the uk,
i payed 3300 total for cam and next day delivery

Cool.

In terms of a breakdown, just make sure that it can be repaired here and that you don't have to send it abroad as you may have to wait a while.

All the best.

It's also worth noting, preston's deal includes 12 months deferreed payment, which has worked so well for me in the past. (in terms of the camera paying for itself).

The £3600 from preston's includes VAT, so I get £500 back - so the camera costs £3059.

do you uk lads know of any experienced hvx users in london or of any 1-2 day crash courses,i need to get up to speed fast

I wish I could say me, but without these P2 cards I've not had a chance to get up to speed yet with mine so I'm not even into the basics yet.

I'd do a seperate topic in General news forum as people who might be able to help might not be reading this thread.

I do recommend Barry's HVX book, its well worth it and it covers a wide range of information from the HVX settings to exposure and focussing for HD.

Good luck,

MajorM.

Finally got prices in for card in the UK. Dissapointing for 4GB; 8 GB is ok but not great.

Prices are:
4GB £380+V.A.T = £446.50 ($833.41 US)
8GB £700+V.A.T = £822.50 ($1,535.21 US)

Dissapointing as i've waited 3 weeks for the news.

I've spoken to customs and we'd only need to pay V.A.T on the item [17.5%] and then any charges the courier company charge.

Which should still be cheaper.

So who's the best price and most reliable company to buy cards from in the US?

Many thanks
Richard Morgan

Digital 4 U are selling the 4gig for £380 and £610. Just give them a ring as they dont list them on ebay. They are really good so check them out. I've jsut ordered a 4 gig and they are sending it next day delivery.

Hmmm, I'd be willing to give d4u a try, but their website scares me ... The english is awful and there is a distinct lack of products ...

Well I just rang them and they quoted me £690.

ROne,

did you get your P2 card in the end? I'm waiting for one to come from HPreston but its been delayed in the post going over from Panasonic to HPreston since last Friday.

Oh well.

How are you finding the HVX?

Thanks,
Majormorgan

Not yet, I needed a 4th card for the weekend (we now have two hvx on different jobs) - and through no fault of prestons the cards never came into stock I believe.

I'm holding back now - though with the 2nd camera I'm almost certainly going to be forced to buy another 8gb card.

I visited Hpreston in person last week, john emailed me to tell me the prices but I wanted to know about availability and I don't want to order one and have to wait weeks.

As regards the HVX, it's great - I'm getting shut of the DVX now, and the betacamera is just about to go. So we'll be a dual hvx unit!

I've got edius 4 and raylight, edius 4 works well on our laptops - but I am more used to premiere.

we shoot 99% of things on P2 even if SD - I just like avoiding tape now.

I think the picture quality even in SD is a big step up over the DVX, and I will be using the HVXx2 with three broadcast beta/dvcameras next month in a live shoot.

Still tempted with this digital4u thing though.

I'm also wondering whether to set up an extra arm to our production company that deals in P2 hire, as I've done okay out of that but not officially tried to market it.

Thanks mate.

I'm looking forward to shooting with my card when it does arrive. John has been helpful, its a shame Panasonic were so dissapointing with the prices and that its been 3 weeks in coming with that news [not worth the wait].

I had considered asking a good friend in the US to buy P2 cards and then I lease them from him for a year [paying a year in advance] and thus would I get a tax benefit over a year if I do a buy-out for 2.5% of the price at the end of the year - instead of having to write the card off over 5 years in tax as a capital expense?

I'll PM you soon as I'm keen to hear about your projects.

Many thanks,
Richard Morgan

Ive decided to give D4U ago, very prompt with emails.

And price is okay £690 inc delivery and vat.

You can only pay with bank transfer or cheque though (I assume margins are squeezed too much for credit card )

I will let you know how I get on.
