Mirror Lake- Nature Cinematography Episode 2

Here is the latest episode in my series on Nature Cinematography.

Composer Brian Moody has come on board to score each episode as it becomes available. Before sunrise, my wife and I hiked up through the wilderness to Mirror Lake- to catch the sunrise and various vistas. Thanks to Neil Rowe, for building the trucks & wheels for the dolly- which made it possible to hike this light weight dolly through the woods.

Absolutely awesome, very much in the tradition of Dysjecta's Pine Lake Films work, which I have admired so much. Did you use a sled or dolly for some of the shots?

I would slow down the animation of the titles a little bit, the pace is out of character with the video.

Thanks, glad you like it. Yeah, Disjecta has insipired me a lot when it comes to nature cinematography. As for the dolly shots- it is a modified bogen dolly. I had originally modified it myself after seeing this thread, (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=35794) , but the wheels were not giving me the ride I needed. So I had Neil Rowe (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=52158) build me some that would work with the dolly, and I love it! Smooth, light, and condenses down, so i can pack it any where. I just use the PVC pipe as the track.

Thanks for the suggestion about the titles- good point.

Wonderful looking stuff. Looks like such a nice play to stop after a hike... THe timelapse at the begining is unbelivable... Thanks for showing this!

What's the weather there now? only mountain in these parts is Space Mountain.

Glad you like it. As for the weather- it is off and on- this last week it has been cold and rainy, but the forcast is for sun and in the upper 70's, possibly hitting 80 ....

Absolutely excellent work. I admire the time & work that goes into creating work like this.

No problem- I'm still playing with my settings- trying to figure out what i like the most for Nature. For teh opening shot, I used the 2 frame hack to record the time lapse. For the rest of the settings, you can down load the scene file from my blog to get the exact settings. They are not huge tweaks, but I have found that in general I like the Cinema-D setting.

wow ..really just some beautiful footage youve got here. great work. at first i read "mirror lake" and though you were shooting at a lake by the same name close to us. but nah, no mountains here. :(

Thanks. I have really enjoyed the dolly wheels- you did a great job with them. I would not have been able to get some of those shots without the dolly!
