Hallo all..

Just thought I would share these grabs from the feature film we are finishing down in Miami. Now the majority of the feature was actually shot on a DVX100 with a PS technik adapter and 35mm primes but since principal prooduction we have aquired an HVX and PS combo and since we needed to shoot a couple final scene including the ending, we decided to just shoot HD and down convert.

It works well to, we had three scenes total left which were scattered throught the feature and all of which were served well by some slo mo so it afforded us the opportunity to add that as well.

At anyrate here they are. We shot these last Fri, these are raw and have no CC. Thoguht everyone might enjoy.

The feature will be completed by end of Oct and will be at AFM.

Tizzy,

I think for raw grabs they look really good. Once you get a chance to set the blacks and whites they should really pop.

BTW, What was your experience like working with the P&S Technik Mini35?

Cool pictures.
Are those grabs shot with the PS? Its very sharp then (the background too...)
How did you save the anamorphic frame while shooting?

Hey thanks all.. as to questions...
My experien ce with the PS.. there really is nothing like it. The others are nice, I wont knock them outright.. but the PS is just a notch above. It is clean and clear. You put good glass infront of it and you have some stellar images. I would love to show you guys a video clip but this close to sale that is probablly not prudent. But I should be able to throw some out there. or atleast let you know when it is hitting Blockbuster shelves.

Yes all the grabs ar with the PS, and some of the sots are sharp. We have a nice selectioon of lenses and needed to showcase the Miami skyline behin him, so for the wides we kept it wide, the last shot is with a longer lens. Not sure I am understanding you last qustion though Schmovie.. You mean how did we keep the wide frame, as in letterbox? These were actually pulled into Final Cut and had a matte aplplied just before i dumped out the grabs as I was cutting this on the final timeline and needed it to match everything else. So if that answers great, if not clarify and i'll be glad to..

I'm sorry about that. Your Avatar stood out.

I'd like to see footage if you would like to share. I think that speaks louder than any grabs really could. But, from what I see, it looks fine. =D

Yeah like I mentioned above, with the sale so close we probablly wont be putting any grabs out. Just thought I would toss them out there for others to see.. No horn tooting necessary LOlL

As for CC Justin there wont be to much on this scene as we have planned now, tighten the blacks a little and a bit warmer but that is it, mainly to contrast the rest of the film which has heavy CC. Think Domino and Man on Fire for some refference although some sequences surpass that. I know your in Miami Justin and Lee has been by Rhino before.. after AFM I might have to have you swing by the studio and see our set up sopmetime.

For example.. often in the past when I have posted music videos and such that we do I get the, "Wow what combo in magic Bullet did you use to achieve that look?" Which, dont get me wrong Magic Bullet is awesome and has helped alot of people have an edge with their films, but it only goes so far. We are running Final Touch HD for DI, and Lenny the owner of the studio is a sick colorist. So Tomorrow I may have to snag some of the other DVX/PS combo shots that already have CC just for refference. Although it will more then likely have to go in the DVX room but if I get around to it I'll let ya know.

As to soft.. Photobucket does not have the best compression which ceertainly degrades the image to some extent, otherwise soft? Not really.. we are watching full res playback on an HD monitor and thats what makes the PS really stand out from some of the others.. nearly zero grain, and sharp sharp sharp. Obviously longer lenses make everything but the subject soft.

I'll keep everyone posted.

Hi Tizzy,
Sorry for my english.
I was curious to know how you protected the anamorphic frame while shooting. You letterboxed in post, yes, but during the shooting, how did you compose the frame? did you black tape a monitor?

Oh no wories man, My pleasure to clarrify. We shoot 16x9 squeeze, but our frame is 2:3:5 So we actually a while back made these plastic pieces that velcro to the monitors both our main monitor and the small LCD we use on camera. But taping it works as well. All you need is to play a image with the matte you want through the monitor then mark it off. we have various marks in permanent ink and then just line up your tape to that before production. Hey be sure to check out the "HVX/PS feature a small taste" thread here if you want to see these images in motion.

i had the fortune to work with a PS technic, this past weekend. Believe me when i say, its worth EVERY PENNY. it has features and conviences that the other 35 adapters just dont have at all. ITs a beautiful machine. perfectly built and desined to use Followfocus/cinema prime combo. ITs a Real professional piece of equiptment.
