Hi guys,

I just purchased my HVX ( thanks to this forum :) ).
However, I can't get to view anything through my Card and monitor (in editing). I'm sure I'm missing something basic here either in connections or work flow inside FCP. :crybaby:
Equipment:
- HVX 200
- Power Mac Quad core, 10.4.8
- FCP 5.0.4
- Decklink HD Pro Dual Link PCI-E
- Panasonic BT-LH1700Wp (HD/SD monitor)
- Sony PVM 9L2 (SD Monitor)

I'm new to HVX, Mac, FCP etc..

Thanks for any help or advice...

Can you describe what workflow you are using in your attempt to see your footage?Once we know that... we can tell you what you are doing right and what you are doing wrong.

First thing... do the crossgrade to FCP 5.1 and the free update to FCP 5.1.2. FCP 5.04 has a problem with P2 footage and FCP 5.1.2 revolutionizes P2 ingest.

Again, as Jim said, we can't see your system from here. Make certain that you LH1700 is set to proper SDI input. Run SDI cable from Decklink. Make certain you are in sequence which conforms to your footage. Set your output device in FCP to the appropriate Decklink choice. You should see video through your Decklink. If you are set up properly and don't see anything, first thing to check is your SDI cable.

Let us know more details.

Hi Jim and thank you for your reply!

I import the 1080 footage from P2 via camera firewire into the Mac.
Get the Quicktimes into Final Cut. I scroll and can preview in FCP's little monitor window.
However:
1. when I want to preview from the Decklink to the Panasonic HD monitor via YPbPr (3BNC connectors), the image comes out with lots of distortion/lines/bad color etc.. as if I'm connecting something wrong. ( looks similar to a bad tv antenna reception).
2. If I try SD/HD-SDI on the Decklink to SDI on Panasonic monitor, I get "no signal".

Am I missing a cable, connection, unit, setting?

Thank you for your help... :s

Guys, I think the Decklink card is the problem. Now, the Mac doesn't start with the card inside. Reinstalled drivers and everything, but helpless..
What card would you recommend me for my equipment?

I kind of suspected the Decklink card. Make certain you have it in the recommended slot. Make certain that the card is seated well. If the Mac still does not start, you Decklink card is dead and you'll need a new one. I have definitely heard of failures in Decklink cards (I even had a Kona 2 AND Breakout box fail). So, you may need to be in touch with them to swap out the card.

I took the card out, and voila.. so.. bad card :s

What card would you guys recommend me 100% ? Meaning, that can be used with the Power Mac & HVX 200 & FCP 5.x.. I want to be able to simultaniously preview on both monitors ( Sony SD & Panasonic HD/SD)..
What are my options?

There is nothing wrong with a Decklink card (one that works, of course). Your other options are Kona 3 or Kona LH. If monitoring is your only concern, you could consider the Matrox MXO box.
