Best Mattebox for the Money

I've had my dvx100a for about 6 months and I'm in the market for a mattebox. What model/brand is the best for the money?

how much money? is have to say the hysonfilms.com one as well. versatile and adjustable for around 230. if you have like 1200 for a mattebox, the a cavision or something

I am in the same boat. I have been looking for matte boxes for a while now and I have decided that I need to make the dive in. Right now I am looking at the Chrosziel one and the Petroff one on the zacuto website. I like the idea of zacuto's rail system. Being an owner of a DVX I am hoping that I can find one that would be compatible with an HVX upgrade in the future. Especially if I am going to spend so much money on it. Any suggestions from anyone that would have input. I feel this is a big decision and I want to make the best choice.

What purpose will you use your mattebox for? Purely as defence against lense flair? You need filters? Rotating filters?

The question is subjective, best for the money? Hmm best for money doesnt mean cheapest to me, is that where your coming from?

yes, that is where I am coming from. By "best" I don't mean cheepest. Has anyone had experience with the Chrosziel or the Petroff? What about buying the one for the HVX and using it with the DVX. Is this a possibility? I know it is probably possibible but I just want to make sure I am getting the most out of my money since it will be such a big purchase. Oh yeah, one more thing. The answer would be YES to all of your questions about the use of the mattebox on my camera. I plan on picking up several filters along with it. Thanks.

Some people here on the forum have been verry happy with the Petroff. I'm saving up to get one: nice 'pro'look, ALL sages rotate and you can add or loose stages in the field with no hassle. I think they are the most bang for a buck. However, I am anxious to see what redrock will come up with...

I can't say enough good things about the HysonFilms.com matte box. Really nice construction and you can use it with or without rod support.

Yeah, I am definitely interested in the HysonFilms box. Whats the price for an SD box with flag? (The site is down temporarily) Thanks.

I have an HD Hyson and for my purposes it is great. He has a new model coming out in a few weeks aparently with full rotation and a bunch of other tools like a rod support and plate as well as a new follow focus. From the quality of the unit I bought and how reasonable the cost was I would say it is worth the wait.

How long has hyson been making those matteboxes? I don't remember reading
about them before, at least not when I bought my Formatt for $200 on Ebay.

Woops never checked back on this thread... Id seriously consider the Cavision 16:9 mattebox. Its not a Petroff, but its not a Hyson films (not detracted from this rock solid performer) either.

You can use it both with a DVX and a HVX, all you need to do is order the adapter ring for both which just screws on.
