Homemade steadicam/glidecam full rig $450 arm & vest

I was previously working on a full rig for my camcorder and never completed it. I finished up the steadicam (it is smooth as silk) . I never finished the arm or vest, based on Cody Deegan's designs on Homebuiltstabilizers.com, but they are about 95% completed. I have sold off most of my gear and although a lot of hard work went into this I really have no use for it other than the cool factor of actually building it myself.

The gimbal is professionally machined and the arm and vest can be configured with different springs and the vest it slightly maleable for custom fitting.

I would like to sell them together, but I will take $180 for the glidecam and $300 for the arm vest.

I spent many hours and a significant amount of money getting supplies for this so this is a complete steal. The first person to buy this is truely making out like a bandit in the night.

Here are some photos

I have compared the steadicam/glidecam to the real deals and mine seems absolutely on par with them if not better (albeit a few ounces heavier) and mine extends out to probably 48" inches or so for smoother tracking and a faux monopod.

Let me know i you are interested.

Yes and no. I do have some footage, but I don't have a camcorder anymore to capture it. I sold my DVC30 last week, so that is why I don't need it the steadicam anymore. It works well, and I understand that you want to make your decision based on personal anaysis.

I will check to see if I have any raw footage left on my computer that has examples, but I am fairly certain I don't.

Also wondering how much weight it will hold. I've got Cody's book and applaud you for building that thing. Way out of my league.

This is still for sale

This is still for sale

First off, it will hold an HVX200, the arm won't hold any weight because I haven't ever made the connector peice to the vest or the steadicam.

As far as the other 5% of unfinished work ,fine tuning the bearings and making sure they are completely flush and secure into the metal (jb weld). I have all the bearings in place, they just may not be secure. Also the springs needs proper adjustment and tension for your particular weight needs. As I said, two peices need to be created that fit the arm to the vest and the glidecam to the arm. (stronger reinforcement at the 'elbow' may need work (just a piece of metal with a few correct size holes driiled and swapped out with the current one in place.)

As far as the vest goes, it needs a simple mount on the bottom to connect it to the arm (already mentioned) and it may need a stronger reinforcement plate at the base of the vest to withstand the crazy amounts of torque that will be present with weight. The vest should be able to accomodate most sizes. I built it for me: 6"1' 190 pounds 40-42 inch chest, 34-36 pant size. It can be tweaked in both directions for a secure comfortable fit, so if your a mideget or giant you may run into problems, but it should have a significant amount of room for tweaking.

The chest plate was designed to fit my chest but it should be fairly generic and can be bent with a large vice and a sledge hammer.

Any questions shouldn't wait, I will answer as fast as I can , but people are very interested and a slight bidding war has begun.

Thanks,

Chris

I have sold the Stabilizer and I am left with the arm and vest. I will sell for $235 shipped, or the best offer within the next week. Serious sweetness.

Thanks,

Chris

Still got it

Still got it

I still have this if anyone wants a sweet deal. Just look at it.

If you have questions let me know.

Thanks,

Chris

I am willing to take just about any trade on this item. Seriously, I don't have any camcorder equipment anymore so I have no use for this arm and vest. I will consider any item worth money, audio equipment will be a plus, I have a friend that is a DJ.

Thanks,

Chris
