More Monitor questions

Okay I am about to start posting an HVX project and I am wondering what monitor to get. Let's pretend for one moment that money is no object (ha!). I am torn between getteing a Panasonic 17" or a second 23" Apple Cinema for digital cinema desktop preview. The project is 720P but I may do 1080 in the future. Here are my questions:

Are any of you using the apple panel (resolution closer to 1080) for 720 work? How does FCP handle the footage and how does it look?

If I get the Panasonic how will it handle 1080 footage?

Thanks for the help.

I would recommend searching, and posting in the forums that talk about monitors,

Why start an "More Monitors questions"? There is one 5 down from when you posted. even though it is in the wrong section, it has yet to be moved. I would try the Hardware Section for the fast info and help in your dilemma.

*The search engine rocks! -- Before you ask a question, please do a search. We have an enormous amount of content and there’s a good chance that your question has been asked before—probably several times.

Please check to see if a thread on your topic already exists. If you have a question or comment about a particular topic, it’s a much better idea to post on a recent existing thread, because it helps keep our content organized.

Please post in the correct forum -- Posting in inappropriate forums makes extra work for the moderators and you may find your post moved or deleted if you didn’t bother to find the correct forum. Also, no crossposting--please only post your question in a single forum.*

So sorry

So sorry

Well the reason it is calle "more monitor questions" is because the thread you pointed out was not covering that topic.

I'm not sure I agree that this does not belong in the general hvx questions section. After all how do you decide between the hardware forum and the HVX forum when the HVX is a piece of hardware.

Thanks for the great tips though

OK

The 1080 is the one to go for for editing. Simple as that.
You'll need a HD card to go with it though.
Decklink or AJA

You could do the Apple with f. ex. HD-link from Dacklink, but you'll still need a HD-card, and personally...
Used it for a week.

Thanks for the info

Thanks for the info

Thank you that was vey helpful.

So you are saying the cinema display running off the stock gfx card doesn't cut it?

I guess that makes sense on some level.

Thanks again.

Regarding your question about the Panasonic monitor. I have the 26" and it is a work of art. Handles both 720 and 1080 without a problem. I am feeding it via HD SDI.

I hope that helps.

Yep. The GFX-card has nothing to do with video-monitoring, really.

The 17" (and I'm sure the 26") pannys are just loveable.

Mind you: There'll be a lot of guys saying you cannot color grade on anything but CRT.

Only problem with that statement is that noone make them anymore.

You get a "pretty accurate" image on an LCD broadcastmonitor. The rest you'll have to be able to read out of your scopes anyway. (And have anyone - and I meen _anyone_ - bought a 42" CRT lately?)
